    scott stevens

i have been thinking about how quiet stevens was on the weekend...

but ive come up with this conclusion, i think stevens for us at the moment is a perfect chf

ie when there was lockett and hall down there, both of them created too much attention, so much so that the ball carrier didnt know which one to go to

however with scott stevens he will have a few quiet ones but if everyone else is having a quiet one im sure that itd be because of some excellent defense to which stevens will be able to step up as he would have the 4th or 5th defender

he is an excellent mark, push him up the ground a little and he is very useful in the forward delivery without the need of him kicking goals

i am ownly a new recruit as far as liking stevens goes but i like the combo of hall and stevens, i think it works well

then again i would like to see doyle planted at chf as far as goal kicking is concerned, but we wont be seeing that too much in the near future

Stevens looks like he'll be used a bit all over the ground - I don't mind him having the odd stint at CHB for example - his height and marking power could prove useful. If he can get himself into the game, I think he has what it takes - but has the tendency to disappear.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

he disappears when we are playing good though, he seems to stand up a bit further when we are playing bad

He was fairly quiet but still took a few very nice marks and his disposal was good when he got the ball. Also worth bearing in mind that you're never going to get a game when the whole team is dominant. We had so many other players getting a heap of the ball against the Blues that some were going to be quiet by comparison. He still made a valuable contribution and it will be his "turn" in other games.

Stevens doesn't do nearly enough work off the ball.

His second efforts are poor and he will always be one of the first to feel the wrath of the match committee because of this.

Shame though. He is an excellent overhead mark and could be real value.

In general I find his work somewhat untidy. He often drops easy marks. And when he gets the ball is often wasteful with it. And hardly ever has any influence on a game.

The only game I can remember him actually sticking out was the Blues one at Optus last year.

I reckon we could groom him into being another Leo Barry (albeit a slower one) and put him in defence.

              Your thoughts?

I think he mean't a Leo Barry by moving a forward to defense.
Not necessarily the same type of player ...
