why is it that year in, year out the swans and the pies are automatically linked to every single player who has ever possibly considered, however remotely, that maybe they could move to another team?

i just think that it is not necessarily a healthy thing for us to be in this position. i get the feeling that we get used a lot more than we should in terms of the player renegotiating better contracts with their club. Its as if the player says the word "sydney" and they expect a few extra zeros on their contract, regardless of the club they play at next season.

Because we get billions each year from the AFL plus am allowed to spend 50 million on the salary cap, and we have no competition from any other sport and just sit here in our mansions waiting to buy every player available

Well I know for a fact that Sydney offered Ball 600k and Collingwood 500. I did mention a few days ago that Ottens' decision would be evident by the end of the week and he would most likely ask to be traded to either the Cats or Swans (check today's Age). I do think, however, that some players do use Sydney and Collingwood as a way of boosting their contracts with no intention of moving. Obviously Sydney is perceived to have money and salary cap space, Collingwood is money bags due to Eddie and his sponsors.

Sure, you can have as many extra zeroes in your contract as you like, provided all of them are placed before the first nonzero digit.

Seriously, it is going to get tired after a while. Players who cry "wolf" in this manner won't know what to do when the real wolf shows up.

Surely they can't be serious. $600,000 for a small easy to push off the ball midfielder who is not a real strong kick. Talented he might be but $600K, surely they have taken "their eye off the ball" so to speak. They must be Joshin' us.

600k that would mean he is seen as twice as good as Jude??? I don't think so.

Admit it Nico, you've never watched him too closely have you. That is such an incorrect statement, it's laughable.

And I don't think he's twice as good as Jude either, Slick. Closer to 3 times better I'd reckon.
