Bevan 2nd in Best First year player award

Which is great, pity he lost by so much lol.

    Aaron Davey 303
    Paul Bevan 66

(Didn't get other players votes down, but it shows you how much effect Davey had on other players with that amazing chase down ability he has!)

watching Davey he reminds me our Wanganeen as a young player, but much more attacking (obviously given his positional play)
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release

I think an interesting fact about that award is that both players were drafted in the rookie draft. It shows that all clubs can do better in the recruiting department if such finds can remain unselected when the national draft ends.

Take off the Red and White glasses mate, Davey was light years ahead of Bevan and the players agree, Bevan was a real find for us this year but Davey was better and if you consider Davey overrated than what can you say about Bevan

The stories behind the two are a bit different though. Bevan had a very good first year at U18 level, beating Schneider in the Rams B&F. He was too young to be drafted that year so had another year in the U18 competition, which was marred by injury. He thus dropped down the pecking order a bit, enabling the Swans to pounce in the rookie draft.

Davey, of course, was ignored by all and sundry in this year's draft, before the Dees took him early in the rookie draft and was then elevated almost straight away. So arguably his "miss" was a worse mistake by clubs.

It is worth bearing in mind is 15 months older than Bevan, even though it was only his first year on an AFL list. He'd already played at least one (maybe two) years in the VFL. So arguably one might expect more improvement to come from Bevan.

Davey often showed flair, speed and skill in the freakish way he plays footy and kicks goals. Therefore he would standout more than Bevan, who was great this year but was probably seen as just another hard-working-blue-collar Swans defensive player.
