      It's far from game over.

He's named the Cats, but certainly hasn't ruled out the Swans, judging by the tone of that article. If what we see as a value deal turns out to be better than what the Cats see as a value deal, Richmond will prefer to trade to Sydney. And, I suspect, Ottens would prefer to come to Sydney than end up in the PSD, where his options would most likely be limited to Richmond (possible, but unlikely imo), Hawthorn (most likely), Bulldogs (maybe, depending on their cap) and the Pies (would jump at the chance if he lasted that long).

Simply, if the market value becomes higher than his value to us, we bail... but if we threw in the towel at this stage I'd be mightily unimpressed. You may recall that Sydney was Plugger's third choice.

To be honest i'm not that disappointed

I would much rather develop our own talent (and trade occassionally), then become involved in big name trades by throwing lots of $$$$ around.

We can still go after Simmonds or Jolly at a significantly cheaper rate

RICHMOND's out-of-contract ruckman Brad Ottens yesterday quit Punt Road and is poised to kick-start his career with Sydney.

I don't know how much of a new enviroment Geelong would give him. He would still be under the same amount of scrutiny down there.
If he's serious, then Sydney has what he needs.
It's only an hour's flight from Melbourne anyhoo, so it's not like he'd be that far from his Mum.

Think he means club structure as opposed to Lockett type scrutiny.

Also, his family have just moved from South Aust and set up a new family structure in Melbourne, so I can understand where he is coming from..

But hey, I am sure we have had this situation before and like Charlie said, we were never going to get Plugger, but we all know what happened!

                  far far from over

He would be happy with either Sydney or Geelong

Geelong = less money & close to family
Sydney = more money & further from family

In fact I would say that it's good news for our chances of snaging him.

Richmond would be hesitant to bow to his every preference given the tone of the statement released the other day.
They are already pisse dthat he's leaving, allowing him to go to his preferred club would not be something I can see them bend over backwards to do.

It's up to the Swans, now to come up with a better deal than Geelong and he will be in red & white next year.

Shame really, that may not leave enough room for Crawford

You might be onto something here. Maybe Ottens really wants to come to Sydney and is trying to trick Richmond into NOT trading him to Geelong by saying that its his preferred club.

We need to get Ottens here!

He + Notting = a substantially stronger looking swannies outfit!

Why all this talk of Notting? With Brisbane with a host of retirees and older plays why would they give up a young talent like Notting. He was about Brisbane's best today so I can't see the Thug giving him away.

Maybe, but Notting may be keen to move on with the right incentive. Perhaps the opportunity of being the lead midfielder rather than number 5 will be enticing!
