    Sydney Aussie Rules Club

It's official, the Sydney Aussie Rules Club in Kings Cross is going to be the Swans official social club as of next year. Got confirmation from staff there yesterday whilst watching the GF. Great venue for our away games and club functions no doubt.

Finally our own social club in Sydney.

    That is good news.

Did you get any additional info - i.e Will it be the same set up as Easts, where a Swans member gets free Membership to the club and the Swans get some type of grant each year?

I asked about that (ie: the Easts deal) however, the staff I spoke with were not sure of exactly how the membership will work. All they could confirm was that it would be our official social club as of next year and aways games and fucntions will be hosted there. I assume it will be a similar deal to the Easts one. It would be great if our membership cards could be used in the pokies with a percentage of the profits going back to us. We all know the goldmine that is pokies in NSW.

Anyway it's great news for our club and what's better is the fact that we will no longer be supporting an NRL club.

        Great for Sydney fans.
Perhaps we could hope for something similar in Melbourne, or is that too much to ask?

I was under the impression something similar was already happening in Melbourne. Wasn't it announced in Swans news some time ago?

Me and Beaussie had a whale of a time there watching the Grand Final. It was a real football-savvy crowd, with lots of barracking and chanting. And Port supporters were in the majority, even getting chants going. Was a great little atmosphere, I tell you! Not a white-wine drinker or pair of designer jeans in site. Nobody talking about their work during the game. Lots of swans supporters there too musing how a club that has been in the league for 7 years can go in and win a flag whilst our last one was in 1993.

They do need some blinds for the windows in the upstairs screen room though. It was too light to really see the screen. And turning off the screen during the presentation to the Port players was also uncool.

I'm not saying it is anything like Easts Leagues or anything like that. But it is at least somewhere we we can call home. If marketed properly by the club, we could get hundreds in there to watch away matches like we used to at Easts Leagues. Having people there selling merchandise like Tony Morwood does at away matches would be a great little earner for the club as well. (Am still dubious as to whether anyone in that office actually cares enough to even think about doing that sort of thing.)

I was so feral yesterday. Really gave that dirty thug Brown and Lynch a mouthful after their disgusting attacks on Port players as well. But despite the banter being rather earthy, it was met with laughter and good humour. Because the crowd were real football supporters were were as hooked on the game as each other. Some great one liners coming from some of the larrikans. And Port supporters delirious with victory.

I bet this decision has been made by Myles Baron-Haye. Man, we need to keep him no matter what. Not only is a down to earth grass roots kinda guy who has the time for the little person, but he seems to be pushing the club in the direction it should be, of being a big family like you get at clubs in Melbourne.

It is good to finally see some common sense come out of Driver Avenue at last.

It will be great for our club to have somewhere it serious can call home. The Cross is not everyone's cup of tea, I know. But it sure beats the wanky Fox and Lion and scungy Alexandria Hotel.

I'm not sure myself. Is it Bells Hotel or Albert by the Lake? There have been so many changes that I lost count.

But does it have a beer garden like the Alexandria hotel - a piece of space for people with kids

                  1993 hey? If only.

Forgot to post that the staff at the club also mentioned a merchandise store was planned.

                      No, it doesn't I'm afraid.

But I'd be surprised you could bring little 'uns into a licensed club in any case. I guess you can't win them all.

Still I think it is infinitely better as a home for the Swans than the Alexandria Hotel.

I still think that disused pub on the corner of victoria rd and the city-link just over the anzac bridge would be a great spot for a club house.

Massive exposure with the amount of traffic that passes through there. Close enough to the city, and geographically near the heart of Sydney.

see your way of thinking using the White Bay Hotel, but where would you park? not the best spot for pick up and set downs
and besides its already been sold for a squillion - the guy who did own it made pure revenue from the bill boards on the top of it - The interior was converted and people did live there for a time, so I dont know if it is earmarked to be reopened as a pub or as they normally do, turn it in to more apartments that will costs a packet and remain empty.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

                            Thats the one.

Rather than buy it, surely the swans could lease it.
There is parking sort of underneath the anzac bridge, and I think there is limited parking near the hotel too.

But I guess it will be appartments soon enough. The scurge of any land harbourside with views.

I work in Balmain each day and that area is chaos at any time.

I'd far rather we had a decent club with pokies, a restaurant, cheap drinks and a big screen to watch games on than to go to another run-down rat-tat pub.

It would be good one day if we the club could actually derive income directly from pokie revenue. As we shiould have been doing right since 1982.

An AFL-only space is a must I think. As I want somewhere that lives and breathes OUR game.
