I suggest that you take the pen and paper option. This site is maintained and populated purely through the efforts of volunteers. I think it's reasonable to put effort into tmaking the site a good experience, but maintaining details of individual voting (when it should be anonymous to the general populace anyway) is going a bit too far.

i never advocated for the individual votes to be available to everybody. I meant that your votes could be stored somewhere, and made available to you, such as when you go to the control panel, you only get to change options for yourself and not for every other person using this website.

but anyway, as i said, if it was too difficult to do, then of course its not worth doing. it would simply be an added feature of this website, not an essential service.

There is always the "official" answer to fall back on.....

Voting is anonymous and no usable record is kept of who any individual voted for. Only the fact that they have voted is recorded
As the writer of the original code (since modded by Des) that statement is essentially correct.

Does anybody mind too much if I do tonight's instalment in the morning? It's a choice of TLM - or keep going with accounting while I think I half-know what I have to do...

so am i correct in saying that when someone votes, you do 2 things:
record the name of the person who has voted
increase the tallies for the players the person voted for.

if this is the case, then fair enough, it obviously cant be done without re-writing a large chunk of the code.

I'm not even sure the second bit happens automatically...

the actual tallies are done manually by Charlie - he gets notified of the votes

is it worth automating this? would it be that difficult? i doubt it. and the beauty of an automated system is that it gives you the flexibility to provide any additional features, such as recording your personal votes each round.

i could lend a hand doing this sort of stuff maybe, i've got plenty of time on my hands at the moment.

I thought of this option too. But I didn't think about it until Charlie posted the 1st vote winners!!! oh well!!!

A simple interim solution would be in addition to Charlie receiving notification of the vote....it also picks up the user's email address as registered on the messageboard (seeing as you are already using the messageboard database for login details) and also sends a copy of the votes submitted to the user.

if youre that keen to keep a tally of your votes, create a spreadsheet and leave it on your desktop and then enter your votes every week
