    Cashed Up Kangaroos????

Where all of a sudden do they get money from. Thought AFL was propping them up. Now they are vying for Ottens.

Think we will end up with no one - we are always a bit slow on picking up good trades I feel. At the same time we don't want another Tingay.
    Love those Swans

yes I am at a loss to explain how a Club that gets 1.5 million a year from the AFL can be "cashed up".

      Stevens and King retirements ?

I wouldn't say we are slow at picking up trades. We've been badly burnt before with duds, and at the same time you are looking for players who are going to be happy to come to Sydney. Also you don't want to sell the crown jewels to get someone.

As menitoned....retirements from senior players on big salaries opens up some room in the cap. Whether they receive handouts or not, remember that clubs must pay a minimum percentage of their salary cap, so with that space freed up from retirements, they would have the opportunity to go after one or two big names.

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The AFL has now removed the stipulation that any club that is receiving assistance can only spend 92.5% of their alloted salary cap. Based on $6.3 Million that is another $472,500 to spend.

Take into account that Stevens and King both retired which would have been another $500,000 for the two at least, you have an extra $1 Million to spend.

It was the right thing to do by the AFL, as the conditions basically meant you had some clubs only able to pay $5.825 Million while we could pay around $7 Million.

I am all for a CBF for struggling clubs to remain viable while the AFL continues to fiddle with the draw to set up some clubs for Friday night TV. This allows them to get the $100 Million a year from the TV networks so some of that money should go back to the clubs that are excluded from Friday night football to meet these TV network requirements.
