Lynchy & Roosy

As Alistair Lynch is best mates with Paul Roos, the wackers on SEN Radio in Melbourne are debating that Lynchy could go to the Swans next year in a role to be determined by Roosy.

With Jonas, Longmire and Lyon all staying as Assistant Coaches, where would Lynchy fit in at the Swans and do we want Lynchy at the Swans ?

I personally think Lynchy would be of particular value to our forwards with his knowledge of forward line play, positioning and current backman in the game and how to combat them.

P.S. This is pure spectulation, please don't shoot the messenger for the above.

I should have chosen my words more carefully, although I think Bazza will have no problems combatting opposition backman with his fists if the need arises....

If we are serious about taking on another coach, I would have thought that the midfield is where we need to concentrate our efforts.

An ideal candidate would be someone like Libba (Oh c'mon we can learn to forgive and forget) or someone of his ilk - a recent past player who knows the ins and outs of getting the ball and playing his opponent and who has had reasonable success at the coaching level. I'm sure Lynch, despite his latest performance, is a decent bloke and maybe even a potential coach of the future but our forward line is the least of our worries, at the moment.

If we rob Paul ( Kelly) to get Peter ( Libba from Carlton ), The King would never forgive the club. Libba is a dog ( literally ), so keep him at the Blues and anyway, Roscoe Lyon was a very capable midfielder in his day and surely did a good job with the midfield considering the resources at his disposal this season.

The midfield isn't as bad as people believe, as Goodes is a ruck-rover who didn't play there this season, Kirk and Bolton are OK to very good and Schneider, Kennelly and Davis could step into the role - not to mention Crouch, Matthews, Williams and McVeigh rotating through the midfield.

Contrary to popular belief, I think the forward line could be a worry if Hall obtains a serious injury or lengthy suspension, as their is no height after Hall, with O'Loughlin the next tallest but definitely too small and injury prone to hold down a key position as a focal point.

Therefore, Lynch is required to teach the smaller and younger forwards, particularly O'Keefe, about body positioning.

He would be a very good assetto our club,except is it true that what i believe is with his 10 match suspension he is not even allowed onto a playing area for that time also?
Would be very hard for him as an assistant coach then for half the season if that is the case.

Unless that Moron Adrian Anderson has changed the rules, Lynch is allowed onto the playing arena during breaks if he is a non-playing role within an AFL club.

It looks like he can't "participate" in a match, which would include Quarter Time I suspect. They could always use a cherry picker like happened in the VFA a few years back! I'm sure there'll be a fine imposed for "Bringing Adrian Anderson into disrepute" hehehehe

I can't remember it happening before ... The AFL may have specific rules relating to their competition, but the Laws of Australian Football state:

19.4.4 Effect of Suspension

(a) Unless Laws 19.4.4 (d) or 19.4.4 (e) apply, a Player or Official
suspended by a Controlling Body is, for the period of the
suspension, or while the suspension remains unserved,
prohibited from playing or participating in a Match conducted
by the Controlling Body imposing the suspension and a Match
conducted by any other Controlling Body.

(b) Where a suspended Player or Official transfers from one Club
to another Club competing in the same or another
competition, the Player or Official shall complete the period of
suspension with his or her new Club if that Club competes in a
competition conducted during the same period as the Club
from which the Player has transferred.

(c) A Controlling Body may still require a Player or Official to
complete any period of a suspension imposed by the
Controlling Body, if the Player or Official returns to the
competition conducted by the Controlling Body within 12
months of completing the suspension in another competition.
This Law applies even though the Player or Official has
completed the suspension in another competition.

(d) A Player or Official who has been suspended from playing or
participating in a competition conducted primarily between 31
March and 30 September may, upon obtaining the prior
written approval of the Controlling Body who imposed the
suspension, play or participate in a competition conducted
primarily between 1 October and 31 March.

(e) A Player or Official who has been suspended from playing or
participating in a competition conducted between primarily 1
October and 31 March may, upon obtaining the prior written
approval of the Controlling Body who imposed the suspension,
