    I FOUND THE ARTICLE!!!!!

    It is here at FootyStats

    Well done Kevin Taylor!

I won't quote the whole thing (as per previous posts/instructons etc). Just scroll the page down til you find it. It doesn't take sides on who "stuffed up" and seems to imply that no-one has rights over the other.

      Football history

If anyone else is interested, I did a heap of research into early Aussie Rules in NSW and have quite a collection of clipping from the SMH of the 1880s about that attempts to supports "Football Under the Victorian Rules". I'm more than happy to pass them on... They're a fantastic read.

Quote from the SMH on June 23rd, 1880 (I hope I'm not breaking copyright, but it's not like I can provide a link)...

"He (Mr Bowen) hoped those present would take steps to forward the object they had in view, as he felt sure the public would go with them in pronouncing the Victorian game as far superior to the Rugby (Hear hear.)"

It seems this debate is an old one

Getting terribly off-topic here, but has anyone read "A Game of Our Own"? Fascinating read...

      Erin

Pass them on to Kevin Taylor via the FootyStats site I quoted above. He'll LOVE them.

          That's FANTASTIC news!

We took 30 children who have never been before and 5 staff and well we have some staff who are absolute converts not to mentions LOTS AND LOTS OF KIDS!!

The tide is turning and now on the school oval, AFL footballs are flying around instead of soccer and league footies.

The Swannies and AFL are making inroads into Sydney and NSW!
It will take time but we are on the right track!

Also our district is establishing the first PSSA AFL comp (weekly sport between schools) in our area. Fingers crossed it gets going!
Lets hope some of them move into Saturday competition via Baulkham Hills or Kellyville or Quakers Hill (depending where you are!). Thats the next big test for the AFL - converting Auskickers to give up Saturday League/Soccer and take up footy (AFL up here).

          GOOD LUCK

Hopefully in 2-3yrs time I'll be umpiring them Saturday afternoons.

Pete, you are absolutely right mate! We need to develop this enjoyment for the game into weekend participation.

Good luck with the umpiring mate!

Errr isn't that about 10,000 more than the AFL release to the public for the GF ?

I was always wondering what would have been the real outcome of all this if Victoria state hadn't split from NSW? I reckon Aussie Rules might have become the real national code.
