Yep - I don't think O'Bree is the answer to our problems, although if we could do the right swap he wouldn't hurt.

The problem I have is that without an injection of some class next year, there is no reason to suggest we will do any better than this year.

if that's the case nmw so be it - there's no such thing as a quick fix solution to putting together a premiership team

70 years not qick enough for you?

Seriously though I agree with you that a quality backman or onballer would help us for a tilt at the premiership in 2005, otherwise our only chance is if some of our younger players step up to the plate to fill the postions where we are lacking (e.g LRT, Mcveigh, Doyle, Schneider and James)

Unless we plan on giving up the farm for Ottens, at this stage it doesn't look like the trade cards are going to fall our way. So the best we can do is draft more quality youngsters and hope that those currently on our list take the next step up

i'm certainly not discounting our 2005 premiership chances just yet regardless of whether we trade or not

Is a fat arsed centreman, exactly what we need, is a great handballer actually.
We need someone who is not only a ball getter but also could thump the ball 50 metres with some accuracy. O'Bree long kicking is very average.

Looks like Roos has squashed that rumour:

Roos denied the Swans had shown interest in Collingwood midfielder Shane O'Bree despite reports to the contrary. He said O'Bree's name had been mentioned by the Magpies but that he did not fit into his plans.

I agree with all that. However, at the same time, if we don't manage to get a couple of good trades it will be frustrating because, without a miracle, our flag chances in 2005 may be a bit slim due to our weak midfield. So again it will be a case of so near yet so far.

Nah, even with a couple of good pick-ups in the trade, we still won't have the depth of Brisbane and Port.

What we really need is a run of good luck with injuries and fixtures . . . if we got that we'd make the four with our current squad . . . and if you finish in the top four anything can happen.

If we have a bad run of luck in 2005 with injuries and fixtures, we won't make the finals even if we've got Ottens and a fat-arsed midfielder.

Can we trade our first two picks for 26 lucky games?

We definitely need a good run with injuries and form. However, even with that, we struggle to defeat the top liners in big games, particularly on big grounds. Adding a couple of good players means that with a good run during the year we are a reasonable chance at the end of the year.

                      No doubt about that.

But I still think that if we had Ball and Doyle fit and firing for a whole season, and Goodes playing loose (as usual) on two good legs, and O'Loughlin and Williams firing every week, and Schneider and Davis getting fit, and Saddo and LRT and James adding height around the ground, and Schauble revitalising his hammies and blah, blah, blah . . . .

                      . . . we'd win the flag!!

Change some names and there are 15, or at least 6 or 7, teams that could say pretty much the same...

Has Notting signed with the Brions? I have not heard his name mentioned all week and of all the names mentioned here in the last month or so I think he is the one I would most like to get.
