How many delistings?

If you assume a straight swap of Bevan and Jolly for Warfe and Meikeljohn, how many players do we still need to delist?

Do we have to delist 3 more players to have 3 picks in the national draft or does Jolly count and we only have to delist 2.

Looking at the remainder of our list - there are not alot of obvious candidates as most of them are still young and untried

Could be some tough decisions to be made


Just checked and Matthew Nicks is eligible for the veterans list in 2005 which should free another spot on the list

As it stands now we need to delist/or have retire - 3 more players. That would mean if we didn't trade further tomorrow, the likes of James, Sundqvist, Fixter, Powell and Malceski would be at risk of the chop with Ball the only one looking like retiring.

However I think we'll see either Saddo or Fosdike traded for draft picks, with Doyle an outsider trade wise.

I don't think so.

IIRC a player must be 30 before the start of the season and have played 10 seasons - Nicks has done neither (unless the rule has changed since last year).

So, if we do not trade again tomorrow, we must delist 3 players from our senior list. IMO most likely:
James
Malceski
Sundqvist

However, the later two may be redrafted (senior or rookie), if no other club/s get in first.

Hopefully Ball will now retire and free up one spot.

midaro they changed the rule last year so that the player can turn 30 during the season, the 10 seasons still stands

As Nicks was drafted in the 1994 national draft and turns 30 next May i believe he is elegible.

I would think that Powell may also be in trouble potentially if he is not traded

Howabout Fosdike, we are publicly shopping him around. What would he feel now if he is still with us by Friday 3pm.

he's still contracted for another 1 or 2 seasons so there's not that much he can do

let's hope it's the spur he needs to lift his game another level

Gettin Jolly doesn't mean we suddenly have surplus ruck stocks. It just means we won't be completely desperate this time next year if, and when, Ball does call it a day.

Thats probabl what they told Jolly. Another 12 months and he will probably be the 1st Ruck, in the meantime he will share duties with Ball, and Doyle.

Sundqvist I would say is a certainty to be chopped. Has been around for quite a long time without doing much. The injury was very poor timing.

Next on the block would be Powell IMO. Again has struggled to get any time in the seniors, and others like Dempster seem to have moved ahead with more emergency listings this year.

A third choice to be cut would be tough to pick. Hopefully we will see some clever trading today for draft picks so it doesnt come to this. But if it did, then I would suggest that someone like Malceski would be done before being redrafted, ala Buchanan.

It's easy to forget that you trade for value, and when you chop you get absolutely nothing in return (apart from a freed spot on the list). However, the flipside is that we need to be down to 35 players (unless we don't participate in the draft at all, which would be... um... brave), and by trading a draft pick for a real live player, we've made that aspect of the situation worse.

So in Sydney's situation, we're better off trading 2 players for 1 (obviously superior player!) in return, if we can swing it.

Being flogged around for trading without result did good things to Stevie Nicks' performances, so hopefully it'll have the same impact on Fossie.

If we don't trade for any more players, the delistings don't have to be a big problem -

Fosdike to Adelaide for a 2nd round pick
Nicks to Vets list
Malceski to Rookie list

If Fosdike stays, then presumably Powell will get the chop, given that he's been touted around the trade table this week.

Why is Malceski's name mentioned when talking about delisting and rookie list spots.

Before his season ending knee surgery in the pre season, Roos publicy stated that he was the young player most likely to play in round 1 and get significant game time during the year. He played all the early games and was showing solid form.

All things going well with his knee reco, he will be fit and ready to go in the pre season in 2005.

Has someone been told the knee is stuffed ?

I'm looking forward to seeing Malceski play in the seniors - from my brief observations he looked to be a very talented and skilled midfielder, possibly exactly what we need!!

Agreed. Dunno where this Malceski talk came from.
Malceski was in very nice form in the pre season and was my tip to be the "standout" of the youngsters for that year.

He's definately my tip for next year.

The delistings IMO will be Sundqvist, Powell and one of Thewlis/James/Dempster/Fixter
