It's hard to believe that the AFL would have publicly released their draw, something the rugby union are yet to do, without having all the grounds booked for those dates.
But not totally impossible. This is the AFL, whose incompetence in ground contract negotiation has the MCC laughing in the AFL's face come finals time for another generation.

I just knew the ARU were going to do this when the AFL announced its draw. I wish I had have posted my thoughts in that thread then and there. This match had clash written all over it. The ARU are shrewd operators if you ask me. Why can't it be a case of first in best dressed? Or at least get the two codes together to friggen sort the mess out before it happens. Oh, but hang on a minute, the ARU are a bunch of festered ASSHOLES
If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.

Looks like the AFL have no venue priority at Telstra Stadium despite putting in a request for the venue before the ARU.

Telstra Stadium management will decide which code gets the venue if the AFL and ARU can't negotiate a resolution. What's the use of booking a venue if you can't be guranteed it is yours on the day/night in question?

That's a disgrace. Despite already having a booking, it appears the AFL is set to be gazumped by those unethical bully-boy nazi thugs.

We will get priority surely! First in best dressed! We cannot let those bastards push us around, if we ever want to take control of this city we are going to need a backbone!!

It should come down to who has the better options for changing. TS expects (and is contracted for) one BC and 3 Swans H&A games each season. So it's not a case of either / or - it should be a case of which one can be moved.

The tight schedule of the AFL prima facie makes its harder to move, although clearly moving the game to the SCG is an option. In that case it may be that TS will need to waive its right to a 3rd Swans game at the stadium this year, but I can't see them or the Swans or AFL being keen on that.

Can the BC date be changed? Can that be moved to a different venue (eg Brisbane, or the NZ and Australian legs switched around)?

From what I've read, the ARU has approached the NZRU about switching the NZ and AU BC legs, but because NZ plays in SA the weekend before, apparently the NZRU is not keen at all to add an extra 3 hours of travel + additional 2 hour time difference to the recovery and preparation for the BC. With NZ also having a visit from the British Lions next year, there is very little chance at all of moving the schedule forward a week, bearing in mind Super 12 schedules and the like.

                I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

I would hope that statement is incorrect. The AFL have a long history of investing in stadiums from the MCG to the Gabba, and several million to Stadium Australia.
Why invest at all if you dont get some tangible benefits like preferential scheduling ?

None of the other sports do any investing.

                    This could make things interesting...

Perhaps the ARU won't be quite so heavy-handed in their dealings with the Swans if they have to compete for use of the Victorian stadiums.

Especially when the AFL DOES have first/exclusive rights to the MCG, Dome, (and Subiaco I think) during winter. Which covers over half the Super 12/14 season.

Considering this, http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/...8487967517.html , I think we could have some very interesting times ahead. If the AFL has actively declared that they won't be kind to rugby, the ARU is going to have to work pretty fast to earn some favours. Hopefully that means the Brisbane game at Telstra, and the ARU having to slash their profits and move the match to SFS. I'd be happy with that.

Incidently, so would many of the rugby fans I've talked to, who maintain that the SFS (I can't bring myself to call it Aussie Stadium) is far better for rugby watching.

There is no way the ARU would shift the biggest earner they have to the SFS.
If Stade de Telstra was booked by the AFL then the ARU have to find another date (ie Friday night/Sunday)

i advise the ARu play the game on the sunday, at a early kick off 4pm or a 7pm kick off channel 7 will still get the tv ratings actually i forgot noone watches channel 7

The only reason they wont play on a sunday or friday because of the 2 week break rule

Interesting to note that NSW Cricket has decided against moving international matches to Stadium Australia. Now they might get a bit desperate to keep there current tenants happy.
