We won't win the premiership next year unless...

Someone steps up to be that silky , finishing midfielder we desperately need.

Who will it be.. Schneider? Davis? Mcveigh?

Are willoughby and Schmidt ready for seniors?

me thinks we will see one of Thewlis, Dempster or most likey Malceski step into the firsts very nicely. I have a feeling Malceski could inject exactly what we are going to require. He has a bit of height, speed, decent skills. If we re-draft Scooter he may get that needed run.
Then there are the Darkhorses such as Luke Taylor and Potter. Nick Potter seems alright but this preseason will show if he truly is AFL quality. Luke Taylor could mould into a decent flanker/KPP. Hes a strong overhead mark and decent kick.
Out of current youngins gettin a run in the 1sts, i think Monty or Ablett will be the spark we need. Both have hunger, Luke has a massive, penetrating kick and Monty has tenacity at ground level. Watch out for a few surprises next season.

I think, in terms of taking a big step for us, perhaps Kennelly and Schneider will be key for the midfield next year, followed by Davis and Bevan.

For a slightly longer term view, I'm hoping Malceski is the one.

Or Davis Jnr. I'm a big fan of what I've seen of him this year in the twos. Is a very very good mark for his size - have seen him take a few that have you shaking your head as to how he hung onto them. Fleet of foot and a very elegant mover. He may still be too green and/or too skinny to have much impact next season but mark him down as one to watch for the future.

kenelly, mc veigh and bevan to step up next year. ablett hopefully as well, i think it's his make or break year. buchanan to get into the midfield ahead of schneider, who will rediscover his goalsneaking capabilities.

Is this Matthew Davis? I look forward to seeing him play.

This year, our only consistent performers in the midfield were Mathews, Williams, Bolton, Crouch and Kirk.

I tend to agree with the obvious remedies. Kennelly and Goodes should be on the wings. Schneider, Bevan, Ablett and Buchanan all have the potential to stand up, and Maxfield and Fosdike will again be reasonable fill-ins. Would prefer Nick Davis to stay in the forward line.

I'm mostly concerned about what happens if we get a couple of injuries. After that lot, which you'd assume would play most games, there isn't a lot coming up for 2005. McVeigh is probably still a year away from having a major impact, as are Thewlis and the debutants.

Bevan is about the only one I could see adding some real quality around the midfield.

I expect McVeigh only to improve by the same amount that Williams tappers off.

Davis is worth far more in the forward line than midfield, and Schnieder just doesnt have the fitness.

All we can hope for is a big name in the pre-season draft with a very high price tag.

Must admit, I see more potential in Paul Bevan than any young Swan I can remember. I certainly think he can step up and become the quality on-baller we crave . . . whether it will be in 2005 is another matter.

I agree with NMW that it's time for Kennelly to be freed up to play full-time in midfield. There'd be a learning curve, but his quality disposal and speed might well mean that we can get the ball into our forward line a lot more effectively.

i have been. i keep waiting for him to string together more than one good game in a row. great long kick which is something we do lack, but, not that quick and horrendously indecisive. i want him to do well but he really has to start doing it soon, otherwise i just see him as taking game time away from another young player
