Alternatively we could see if the McGoos could start say 1/2 an hour earlier and between them finishing and the big boys starting...

Coming to a board near you... The first RWO National draft.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Anyone found more details on the web about the sport? All I can find is that it is non contact, played on a 100x50m pitch, 8 players per team with unlimited interchange.

If there are people interested in this, maybe we should organise a social bbq/footy game at a park someone central for everyone.

There is a nice booklet with all the modified rules here.

Do they still have the posts up on the training ground on Driver Avenue?

                    Thanks Stella!

                    Of interest:

In single sex competitions a goal is worth six (6) points. In mixed competitions a goal scored by a
male forward is worth six (6) points, by a female forward, nine (9) points.

Is there a female tall on this forum? Any swedish girls out there?

                    c. There can be absolutely no contact in a marking contest. The player in the front position has every
opportunity to mark the ball. Players cannot mark the ball from behind.

WTF!? This is the best bit of AFL! How are you supposed to contest the mark... It doesnt say anything about spoiling so I guess you can do that if you get in front.

"A mark is awarded irrespective of the distance the ball has travelled."

So, if a male takes a mark in the scoring zone then the team rule demands a short pass (a metre will do) to a nearby designated female goal scorer.

There are three forwards and one has to be female (in a mixed team) but the males can kick goals if they want though they only get 6 points instead of 9 for the goal. It can be a short pass. I suppose you could just go back on the mark... move the female between you and the person on the mark and then kick it to her in that position covering a metre or two with the kick.

Man, I'm not the biggest fan. The 'no pushing/tackling/rough stuff' is totally sensible.

But in a game which is surely designed to be played on an ad hoc social basis, why would you require that zones be painted on the oval? (If zones weren't painted and you just put jumpers on the edge of the oval, there's a risk of constant arguments about when you were and weren't in a given zone.)

And isn't Aussie Rules all about 'anything can happen anywhere' rather than all of the pernickity 'you're offside/you can't be in that zone/you can do that 5 metres away but not here' technicalities of other football codes? I also don't really understand rule 9(a), i.e. there's a turnover if a 'loose' ball makes contact with the ground. I understand that the ball's loose if it gets kicked 30 metres from the nearest player, but does this rule mean that if a player attempts to mark and the ball slips through his/her fingers, or a handball misses its target, a turnover occurs? Demanding a pretty high standard of social players, if that's what it's intended to mean.

I'd vote for playing modified modified rules!

I was thinking along the same lines with some of the rules. Also there is 60 metres in the centre which is a lot for only 2 players. But I believe that players can roam anywhere it is just that only forwards can mark and kick for goal in the 20. "Players must be in their zones at the start of the match and after a goal has been scored. Once the game is
in progress, they may leave their zones, though they are not permitted to enter either team?s scoring zone."
So only your three defenders can stay in that part of the field but that can run forward into the centre as well and deliever the ball directly to the forwards.

And, as you say, Rule 9(a) about the loose ball makes no sense. Especially considering there are only 2 midfielders.
