According to Ten News Jarrad Crouch and partner have returned to Sydney after Crouch suffered a broken collarbone and could miss upto two months of the preseason, a SoS call went out to Barry Hall who is hoildaying in Europe but the Swans have ruled out Hall due to ankle surgery. This bloody stupid hybrid game has done what no Afl game could do, this is just not what we need all Swans players should band from particpating in these pointless games

Fractures of the collarbone (clavicle) are relatively common in football players, particularly younger players. They can occur from falls on hard ground or from a direct collision (shoulder clash).

Fortunately they can usually be treated without surgery and they usually heal well. Re-fractures can occur if players elect to return to play early (between 6-12 weeks after injury).

What are the advantages and disadvantages of surgery in professional players? Surgery can be used to stabilise a fractured clavicle, and it is thought that this may marginally reduce recovery time and decrease recurrence rates in professional players. However, no comparative studies have been performed to prove this. There is a much higher complication rate from surgery (infection, movement of plate and screws, need for later surgery to remove plates due to irritation) so that this is generally avoided in amateur athletes.

Looks like he will not be training until 2005.

I whole-heartidly support Crouchies choice to represent his country and play in the IR series, and denounce the Swans attempts to deny Barry Hall the same privilege.

I applaud the club from attempting to keep Baz away from the match. (Not that I have heard Baz say he is desperate to play)

I could handle them risking themselves if they were playing Footy, but not this.

This isn't the sport I grew up with, and it just looks plain stupid to me.

Agree on the first part but not the second.

Hall is recovering from post-season surgery and thus cannot really considered to be fully fit. In these circumstances I think the club is well within its rights to state that Hall is unavailable to play. If he were fit I am sure they would give him their blessing.

its great in theory to give an opportunity to represent the country but geez, the players need some time off.
They are only human cant push them this hard.


further more the game is basically nothing like aussie rules and i find it kind of boring. But if they are going to have it cant it be best of an odd number?? why is sport around the world having best of even numbers

the cricket is a 4 match series... why?? then it can end 2 all.... just stupid

You know, I was all for the IR series until the game that I saw played on Sunday. It was an absolute disgrace of a game. The umpiring is so confusing that I believe even the officials don't know what they are paying free kicks for. Not being able to tackle a player from behind! ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!!! And the Crouch incident.. How the frig did crouch give away a free kick when it was his collar bone that got broken? Shouldn't it have been crouchies free for TOO HIGH!?

That's really only sour grapes talking there, but it highlights that until the game is played on a regular basis, ie stop playing Aussie rules and play IR instead, the game will continue to be just a junket for the players and anguish for the AFL clubs and fans. <-- See how ridiculous the concept is? It's a hybrid game ffs and isn't worth risking our players on. BRING BACK STATE OF ORIGIN!!

Crouchy was on Sunrise this morning, fresh off the plane - talking about the I/R series, the crowd and most importantly how he's doing and if it's going to interupt his streak - he said the boys were giving him a go about it.... but said he'll be fine, and will be back running in about 3 weeks, so it wasn't going to break his streak (with 2 games to go to break record, I think?)
Poor Crouch had a European holiday planned last year, but got the call up to play in Oz, so they re-scheduled for this year and were planning on going after his duties in Ireland were up, but now he's had to postpone again and come home....they're destined not to go on this holiday.
He seemed in good spirits, so here's hoping it mends quickly and doesn't interupt his pre-season too much.
