    Spriggs

My mate down at the Cattery reckons Spriggs is on his way to the Swans - he's been talking to them over the last few days sorting out the finer details.....

was good before he did his knee, has been useless since.

I'd rather we went for young players in the National draft. If we decide to participate in the pre-season draft, and Spriggs is the best available when our pick comes around, then get him, but I'm not overly enthusiastic

I doubt we would be participating in the PSD, we have enough trouble trying to cut players as it is already.

Must admit, ever since I watched Spriggs in the U18 Grand Final I've thought he could be something special . . . . so I wouldn't mind seeing him in red and white.

But . . . who do we cut off the list to free up a spot in the PSD?

            I wouldn't like to have to choose . . . .

If he's been delisted by Geelong he's eligible to enter the National Draft, meaning that the Swans could choose him as one of their compulsory 3 picks in that draft.

Well at least if we get him Jude might be a bit down the list in the clanger count and might get a respite from this site. I'm with you NMW, another mediocre midfielder top up player is not what we want.

Lets hope the rumour is nothing but skuttlebuck.

Well I will admit to being a fan before he did his knee, I like the fact that hes a good tackler (suits our style) can kick a goal on the run and is a wingman who has proven to be able to win his own ball. Again his weakness is his disposal, does have a bit to prove to Geelong and others I believe we have a knack of getting the best from those sort of players.

                      Tough one this one.

Pre knee injury he was a future star. Was quick and was able to win his own ball. But his disposal let him down at times.

Post knee injury (and it was a particularly bad one) he has lost that pace which has meant his disposal has become more of an issue as he is caught with the ball more often.

Depending on how the draft works out a pick in the pre season draft on a reduced contract would be worth a punt. But I would prefer the club to take a punt on Ed Clarke than Spriggs (although we can pre rookie list Clarke to secure him if he makes it through the draft which seems likely).

Actually, if you look back at the 2004 pre-season reports, Spriggs was still the fastest at Geelong on the track. His injury may have cost him some agility on the footy field, but I suspect that what he has lost most of is confidence.

Pre-injury, he was exactly what the Swans need . . . very good at extracting the ball at stoppages. He liked to grab the ball out of a scrimmage and run like hell! Not a lot of subtlety, but very effective.

And remember I good uninterrupted pre-season can do a lot for a players confidence after a serious injury. This year he was probably still coming to terms with over coming the mental aspect of the injury.
And a new club can sometimes get the best (or better) out of a player.
