Where does the Hampden League play? Does the comp rate at all?

You never know Kirk and Stevens were late starters.

        South West Coast of Victoria.

Hampden League takes in towns such as Camperdown, Terang, Mortlake, Warnambool and Port Fairy.

Players of note who have come from that area.

Ricky Barham, Jonathon Brown, Wayne Schwass, and a host of Fitzroy players as the area used to be zoned to Fitzroy in the days of zoning.

Is a fairly strong league, although is boarded by the leagues that take in Geelong and Hamilton and Mt Gambier in Sth Aust, which tend to attract players after bigger money.

Interesting - he sounds like the sort of player that would have been picked up in the old Mid-Season Draft - like Cressa!

Hopefully he turns into another mature age recruit who missed his first chance in the AFL - Andrew Dunkley.

          Good luck to him!

One thing's for sure, it shows we are very keen to get a mature bodied player to either hold down CHB or at least provide back up.

I saw a fair bit of footy last year in the Eastern Districts Football League in Victoria and there are plenty of blokes in that league that are capable of playing at the highest level once given the traning and support that AFL players get.

Goog luck to Luke, will definately be keen to impress considering it will be his last shot at the big time.

Geelong Falcons get a lot of juniors from that area. Try Paul Crouch (Brownlow) and Paul Broderick as a couple of others who could play. Think maybe Buddha Hocking comes from that area also.

I have a feeling clubs are now prepared to look a bit wider than the U18 comps which is a good thing. There has been much debate here about the merits of recruiting skinny kids then keeping them on the list or rookie list until thry develop physically.

By taking a broader approach it may be smart to pick up a Vogels type player every year to include a more mature and "ready made" draftee in the mix.

I like the idea of picking up a 190cm+ Key Position player who is ready made body wise, just needs a little work skill and fitness wise. Worth the risk, its not like there are any ready made K/P players in the draft anyway that will be available late.

However lets not get carried away with this. We have just asked him to train with us, he isn't a dead cert for the draft yet. Remember he is 21, which is still young enough for the rookie list and thats what I expect he'll end up if the club likes what it sees (that or they will use the last pick)

Among the major VCFL country leagues the ranking would go:

                        Ovens and Murray FL
                        Goulburn Valley FL
(these two are by and far the strongest, and get GF crowds of 10,000+)

                        Mornington Peninsula-Nepean FL
                        Geelong FL
(strongest leagues beneath the top two)

And the rest of the VCFL major leagues:
                        Ballarat FL
                        Bendigo FL
                        Hampden FL
                        West Gippsland-Latrobe FL
                        Western Border FL
                        Central Murray FL
                        North Central FL
                        Murray FL
                        Sunraysia FL
                        Wimmera FL

Beneath those you'll find district leagues in each of the regions of varying standard.

Does it really matter? Which league did Bevan, Schneider and Kelly come from again?
