    Player information

Can anyone inform me of how many players we still need to delist? What numbers we have in the draft - no low number picks I think.? Contracts still unsigned - Saddington? Thewlis? etc - believe there would be a few players unsigned - is that because they still don't know who to get rid of.
Nicks surely has played well enough to keep for another year - I like his leadership and effort.

Any certainties of who will still go - as I seem to read into these posts that we still need to delist a player or two?

Nobody seems to know...see this thread I started the other day which includes my guesses.

    Draft stories are here

    And here...

    Sydney's draft picks are 31, 47 and 63

Everyone says that must use three draft picks in the National Draft. We have delisted/retired Meiklejohn and Warfe - but we will (presumably) elevate Bevan. The AFL site is ambiguous on the issue of Rookie elevations. It says that a club must have a maximum of 35 on its senior list, implying that 3 players must be taken in the National draft. But it doesn't say anywhere that three players must taken in the National Draft. In fact it goes on to say that AFTER the trade period the list must be reduced to 35 and THEN teams can nominate father/son draft picks as well as elevate rookies. It could be read that rookies can be elevated INSTEAD of drafting.

Here's the quote "Clubs can also nominate players they will select under the father/son rule (explained later) before the draft and elevate players from the Rookie List on to their senior list."

It could also be read to mean that if a rookie is going on to the senior list before the draft then he is considered one of the 35 (maximum).

Although it doesn't say so specifically, it is implied that the compulsory element to participating in the draft can include the Pre-Season draft. In other words, although players must be drafted there is nothing to say that 3 of those players have to come from the National Draft.

To summarise....none of us knows what is going on.

It is possible that we will only delist one more player.

How? Well, 2 players gone, plus Nicks to the veterans list leaves 35 on the senior list. Add Jolly and you have one too many. For all we know Bevan will stay on the rookie list for another year and play as one of the "nominated" rookies like he did this year. He might agree to that if they give him a pay rise. Maybe there are rules against this. Or, maybe his elevation is instead of a drfat pick. Also we may draft in the pre season rather than the National draft. We'll have Notting thanks!

Sharp thanks for your valuable information again.
Will read and take it all in when not at work.
what I still don't understand is that no matter what we don't trade/do trade beforehand - or where we finish in the competition - we always end up with picks in the 30s 40s etc.
How do teams like Brisbane etc pick early all the time.
they dont finish last or in the bottom eight

They Trade very well!! By giving up a top player you will get a high pick or two in return. That is how we used to get top players by giving up early picks, in the bad old days.

Page 5 ofthis forum and all of this forum is where I got my education. Maybe you can, too!

The short version (and the long version is very long)- presuming that we can veteran's list Nicks (which I believe we can) and that we will promote Bevan (which seems a certainty), we still have to dump 2 more souls. By tomorrow.

Brisbane have their first pick at #18 this year. No-one can queue-jump unless they persuade lower-ranked clubs to trade them draft picks (by giving 'em their own players).
