Thanks Troy. It appears the rumours were true. I don't agree with the decision to delist Thewlis and James but it's always a tough call.

Well, Troy's about as reliable a source as we have on this site, so that just about confirms it.

Just a thought about Heath. Maybe he has been holding on to his spot for so many years due to several people within the club being sentimental or something like that. Perhaps Andrew Ireland came in, completely unaffected emotionally by Heath's persistence throughout the last 5 years, and with a head clear from any sentimentality has seen that Heath wasnt going to help take us to a flag, so he has made the decision to let Heath go.

It is just a theory, probably wrong, but it does seem a bit strange that players like Heath James and Josh Thewlis, who both played some games this year, are cut while others in Powell and Sundqvist stay on the list for yet another year.

However perhaps Powell and Sundqvist are still under contract while Thewlis and James are not. I would not be suprised to see Thewlis re-drafted though.

          Thewlis

I was the first to post the delistings of Thewlis and James almost three weeks ago, not many people believed it back then but maybe you all will not be so quick to shoot down any future posts I may make.
Several clubs have shown interest in Thewlis so if the Swans don't pick him up, at least he will be at another club next year. Hope the same goes for Heath.
The fact that the club delisted these two still puzzles me, Powell is out of contract this year and so is Sunny. Obviously they think they have enough talent to make an impact. Several of the younger players, eg Malceski are yet to re sign so they are still not safe. A second list will be lodged on November 15 so I wonuldn't be surprised to see some more go if the pre season draft looks more inviting.

            Hey Swans,

I like your crystal ball. Who is going to win the Melbourne Cup?

No crystal ball, I would be very rich if I did have one. Both players were told three weeks ago that they were delisted, for whatever reason, the Swans have decided not to publicise it. If you want me to continue making future posts before the news is released I will, if not that's fine.

Your credibility rating just went up to 4 stars. It's obvious you've got some inside knowledge and if you choose to share it, your info would be welcome on this site.

But don't expect not to be confronted by a fair share of cynics, skeptics and doubters, it is what keeps this site fresh.

As the delistings are mandatory, What are the chances of either or both being redrafted by the swans???

Yep, swans_fan6, you are da man. (Or, possibly, woman. Who knows?) Small number of posts + no attributed source will always make people skeptical; but it doesn't necessarily mean the news isn't true!

Very sadly, probably the end of the road for Heathy's AFL career. Once you're a mature player, the fact that you've been selected to play firsts during the year is no protection against dumping at all. There is a finite number of times that a club will delist and redraft the same player, and Heath really would be Lazarus with a triple bypass if he came back in again. I'm on the team that says he could have made a serviceable KP defender. Then again, I could have been a genius half-forward flanker (but I'm not).

I agree that the decision to delist Thewlis is strange in light of the fact that he got the nod ahead of many others for a cuppla games this year (albeit he got very little on-field time in those games). I would be pretty surprised if he wasn't re-drafted with a final pick, but like the man says, he's on the open market and it also wouldn't be wildly surprising if another club took him.

One question for the knowing ones: is there any prohibition on people who've been on the seniors list being rookie drafted? Thewlis is certainly still plenty young enough to qualify.

Daniel Hunt was placed on the rookie list at the end of last year after spending two years on the senior list so it is perfectly ok. Same with Heath James a few years ago from senior to rookie back to senior.

With Thewlis, I'm guessing that the delisting was necessary to get the club down to the mandatory number of listed players prior to the draft. This happened to Buchanan last year, and as we all know Buchanan was redrafted and made the step up this year.

I expect Thewlis to be redrafted this year, either by the Swans or by another club. All clubs will soon be examining the other clubs' delisted players, looking for the gems lurking among the dross. If we don't redraft Thewlis, don't be surprised if the Swans redraft a player that was culled from another club's list.
