    news

Just looking through recent articles in the newspaper and found out that the only two players from the Swans reserves to make the team of the year have both been de listed, McGlone and Thewlis. The team was judged by the coaches of all the teams in the league. I find that very puzzling.
An article today in the Canberra Times reports that Meiklejohn is off to play with Heath James' old side Port Adelaide next year. He turned down an offer from Tuggeranong. McGlone has also turned down an offer from Ainslie to play in their side next year.

being the best reserves player can tend to be a bit of a double edged sword.

      Can't compare ACTAFL to AFL.

You can be a great ACT player but never be suited to the AFL.

      Just the way it goes.

Simon Feast & Gerrard Bennett come to mind.

Having traded for just one new player, I can only hope that the Swans resign McGlone in the draft. I still think they made a mistake delisting him.

Just goes to show how poorly the swans regard and use the act comp.
                pity that.

                  I don't.

He had three years at the club to prove himself and while from all reports he played some good footy in the ACTAFL, the club rightly decided that after three years they hadn't seen enough to warrant a fourth year on the rookie list let alone the senior list. Just because he was a star at the ACTAFL level doesn't mean he was going to be a solid player at the AFL level. Gerard Bennett and Ryan O'Connor as cases in point.

I'm still yet to see one person give a solid reason why he could of made it, other than pointing at possession counts and the amount of times he made the local newspapers BOG list, which can and are misleading. From the few reports I have seen from people that had seen him play, they all were of the impression that while he got alot of the ball, his kicking skills let him down getting the ball forward and that he was too lightly built to even get close to getting half the possessions in the AFL that he got in the ACTAFL. Certainly not what you want in a so called "star"

Whether he would of became a star or even a solid contributer if given a chance in the senior level, we'll never know. But one things for sure no other AFL club looks likely to give McGlone the chance to prove us wrong and I think that fact alone prove my point.

I wish Scott all the best in the future

agreed Robbie - although i didn't get the chance to see him play i don't think he was the messiah everyone made him out to be

we are light on for quality players as it is so i can't see roos and ireland cutting a future star

as far as delisting players (and leaving aside the go home factor), we haven't really had any egg on our faces for quite a few seasons now.

Caven was probably the last one, obviously Licuria has gone on to succeed at Collingwood but we got a fair trade for him (i.e 3rd pick in the draft)

Feel free to correct me if you can think of anyone

Besides the ones you named above, no one has come back to bite us, just like Ricky Mott didn't and just like Scott Stevens didn't.

Hard calls had to be made and I'm not losing any sleep over cutting McGlone.

I had big wraps on Scott and am sad to see him delisted.

His disposal at times let him down, but not all the time I don't think it was as bad as some make it out to be. He did work hard to get where the ball was to rack up all of the posessions. I think the main thing that held him back was his size, he had a small frame. There was no fat on him and I just couldn't imagine him getting any bigger. Kind of the same complaint many have about Saddo, except Scott was also a lot shorter.

I do hope he continues to play somewhere, but agreed he was never probably going to make it as a regular player in the AFL
