    Another unfortunate product of modern football. Players are taught to flood into the midfield to try and choke up that area making it difficult to find a way through into the forward line. Trouble is in the situations you describe always leaves opposition players free to drop back into defence and become chip targets. The old fashioned idea of "manning up" (apart from the taggers) is long gone leading to these rediculous situations.
