From premiership teams would be on every opposing fan's wish list?
The reason I'm asking is that having a look at how many we have might give us an idea of how far away we are.
Definites (Any fan would want them in their team) (9)
Hall
O'Loughlin
Williams
Kirk
Barry
Kennelly
Schauble
Schneider
Goodes (sorry about the original oversight!)
Maybes (Astute fans would have noticed them and would want them on their team) (5)
O'Keefe
Buchanan
Bevan
Crouch
N. Davis
Potentials (Could develop into players other fans would really desire)
J. Bolton
C. Bolton
Saddington
Doyle
Jolly
McVeigh
LRT
Willoughby
Dempster
M. Davis
Good Ordinaries (even great teams have them...but you wouldn't bother picking one up in the PSD)
Ball
Ablett
Mathews
Maxfield
Nicks
Fosdike
Sundqvist
Powell
Thewlis
My reckoning is that genuine teams would have at least four more players from the "Potentials" list in one of the two higher lists.
Making 17 in the first 2 groups, 3 or 4 good ordinaries and only 1 or 2 still only "potentially" of interest to opposing coaches and fans.
For J. Bolton, C. Bolton, Saddington and Doyle I believe that 2005 will see them either move up or down a list. This is make or break time as to whether they become key plyers or foot soldiers. Fosdike, Mathews, James, O'Keefe, and Bevan moved off the "potentials" list in 2004....but only 2 of them on the right direction! I believe Saddo was headed up before his knee injury.
Age can move players form the top lists to the "Good Ordinaries," like Maxi, Nicksy and Bally. Williamsy flirted with it in 2004....hopefully he will regain his best form for one more season.
