"Kick On" - 1991 Promotional Song

During my once a decade room clean up yesterday, I discovered an unopened cassette tape of the ?Kick On? promotional song that was made for the club in 1991 ? I had forgotten just how awful that song was!

If anyone?s forgotten the song (or has had psychiatric help to obliterate it from memory), here's a reminder. It?s sung by Glenn Shorrock and a (very) ?ocker? bloke offers a spoken refrain. There is also an alternative version of the song on the tape, where the refrain mentions QBE.

The first verse starts with the line?

Here we come, we?re Bucky?s boys?

If anyone wants to hear this tragic piece in its entirety, I?ve ripped some copies onto my computer; as (42Kbs) Windows Media files (about 1.2MB) or (128Kbs) MP3 files (about 3.1 MB) I can send them as email attachments to anyone who wants a copy. Contact me by PM, let me know which of the versions you want (Original or QBE) and what format you want WMP or MP3. Note: Some email programs (like the free version of hotmail) will not accept attachments over 1 MB.

If any Swans historians would like a higher quality version for their records, contact me by PM and I?ll send them a CD with both versions and a copy of the tape?s original cover artwork. This service is offered to genuine Swans historians/archivists only ? a music lover certainly wouldn?t be interested in a permanent, high quality version of this song. It?s a shocker.

Tragically I still remember some of the words!!

With Wally and Diesel and Gareth John,

The Sydney Swans are coming back and Kickin On!

Kick on Kick on, you Sydney Swan!!

    Anyway something like that!

The days of the Swannetts, and Show it to 'em' Sydney being played after every goal!
    Swannies for life!

It was a tragic, the Bucky's Boys line still haunts me.

Much more fun was the Dave Warner cassette from 95 or 96 with most memorably "Mooney, Bayes and Dunkley always keep them down" as the chorus of a rewrite of Rainy Days and Mondays...

plus of course "Great Big Plugger Lockett" and a good one about Luffy that escapes me.
Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun

I always turn to the sports pages first, which record people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures......Earl Warren

To the tune of "Love, love will keep us together" (dunno if that's the real name, but it was some chick sining in the 80's iirc):
"Luff, Luff will keep it together/ no matter the ground or the weather/ centre half back or occasional ruck/ Troy is the boy you need when you're stuck/ And it's not just luck/ Troy, he's strong and committed/ Troy his career has been *can't recall and more*

The great big plugger lockett one was also rather humorous. I still have that tape somewhere....
