What has everyone thought of the standard of umpiring last season?

As Des is strictly enforcing the messageboard?s rules regarding bad language, I am unable to contribute to this thread.

I personally think that it hasn't been overly bad, but they should give the boundary umpires more power because alot of the stuff that happens, the field umpires can't see, but the crowd can, so they should be able to converse with the boundary umpires.

I reckon rounds 1-10-ish were over-umpired (which has been a bugbear of mine for years!), and this leads to inconsistencies (as how "soft" does a free have to be to be paid? and also it means more "frees" are missed although they aren't really frees, but "the other team was paid so we should too" etc).

After that point, there seemed to be a general increase in the common-sense interpretations of the laws, and a reduction in "the law says its a free so I'll pay it". This lead to a more even-handed and consistant implementation of the laws, and in my view a huge increase in the standard of the umpiring. Hopefully this will continue, and will stamp out the diving & throwing arms back etc.
