No More Wizard Cup Matches at Telstra Stadium

Well not in week one of the Wizard Cup at least. Probably a good thing considering the pathetic crowds that have attended in the past.

The Swans are set to play the Western Bulldogs in a double header at the Telstra Dome:

Thank goodness for that. Hopefully the next time we play at TS in the Fizz Wizz Cup is in the GF. As for the Double Header in Round One, I'm more than happy with the match at TD instead of Optus Oval.
    Once was, now elsewhere

        Good decision...
        A) To not have a pre season game at Telstra Stadium (unless it is a grand final). It's a little depressing sitting at the game or watching it on tv with a sprinkling of people dotted around the ground.

        B) To have a double header for the Wizard Cup. May even make the trip south for it!
        Swannies for life!

Well given how some on here, object to any games at Stade de Telstra I guess they will be satisfied they don't have to worry about travelling West of Anzac Pde.
Why they decided to play a pre season game there in the first place, I am still trying to figure out

Probably because they've wanted to play some pre-season games in Sydney and its the only suitable ground that is available in February.

I think it was part of the original contract between the AFL and Stadium Australia.

Hmmm, North Sydney Oval, Macquaire Uni, even Monarch Oval, prehaps there is a chance for Henson Park to host a pre season game.
Alternativly a couple of hours along the freeway (a shock to some people ) Newcastle Showgrounds

North Sydney Oval isn't even big enough to accomodate 18 players on each side. When the Swans and Dons play there they play 16-a-side. This is fine for a friendly but hardly for the Wiz Cup.

Never been to Henson Park, but have been to Monarch and Macquarie. Unless they have changed dramatically in the last few years, they hardly have the facilities you'd expect for an AFL level competitive game - practice match maybe, Wizz Cup nah.

And in case you hadn't noticed, Newcastle isn't in Sydney. I have no problem with the AFL wishing to play games up there but it hardly qualifies as playing in Sydney.

As far as I know, MAcquarie Uni's oval doesn't actually exist atm cue to the construction of the Chatswood-Epping Rail link.

I went to the Wizard Cup game against Carlton in Feb and was quite disgusted with the poor crowd we got that day!Ok,it was pre season and not a premiership game but i thought the general public would appreciate a little bit more AFL footy here in Sydney. Then again,we are talking about Sydney here.
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

I think Newcastle is a great idea . Especially if people in Sydney aren't going to warm to there home town . It's the structure where you can afford to experiment .
                          give it to the game

A "home" WizCup final (if it should happen) would be likely to be at StadeOz
