How you can use that idea in the AFL is a beyond me.
Sounds like a argument against Ed Clarke, who at the nationals was a man playing against kids.

It's interesting because with Clarke, Moore and Schmidt we have three 'nuggety' types who are generally out of favour amongst afl recruiters.

But then so too were Sam Mitchell, Darren Cresswell and Greg Williams.

On the other hand I gotta admit what I saw of Schmidt last year wasn't all that impressive.

It will be interesting to see what eventuates.

Hey guys and girls, It's me from the Port game earlier this season lol.

Was at a freinds work dinner tonight where Heath worked and had a little chat to him about going to Sydney, Obviously the nerves are there (as you'd expect) but i was just telling him he needs to make sure that he gets in the Swans league side and knock some Feral (Port) players over for me lol. I wish Heath the Best at your club and hope he plays some great footy with you guys in the future, hes really a great bloke so make him feel at home.
      Cheers!!!

The article I read, in which Roos was referring to that book, included comments on the predictive power of the various tests they put young footballers through, especially at the draft camp. He stated in that article that the only correlation supportable by observable results between the likelihood of someone becoming a decent AFL footballer and the results of their draft camp screenings was limited to two tests (one was the reaction time one, I think the other was the 20m sprint).

The concept of using statistical analysis to measure the value of a predictive test is hardly new or confined to US college baseball recruitment. For instance, most university recruitment processes rely, in part, on correlations between results on school tests and special entrance exams and the success rate within degree programmes. It is why many of these tests and exams have survived even when, on the face of it, they don't seem to be examining any inherently useful skills.

NB - "statistical analysis" in this context has absolutely nothing to do with how many kicks or handballs a player averaged in his junior career!!

To suggest, therefore, that the only reason Roos thought to look for a link between the results of draft camp tests and whether a person becomes a good AFL player is because he read that book, is drawing a very very long bow.
