I don't want Stuart retiring at the end of 2005. Not evne close to considering it. I hate saying good-bye to quality players etc. I will be upset when Roos leaves if he goes at the end of 2008 or something.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

Yup, keeping veterans for sentimental reasons is a sure-fire way for mediocrity for years to come! Where is footyhead when we need him?
Nick Malceski should of been cut instead of Heath James and a rookie drafted in James' spot in the draft.
"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."
I agree with most of it, however from part one you have 2 guys facing delisting and in part 2 you have 4 guys, with part 3 to come. I doubt that Fosdike or Fixter face the axe, but no huge arguements over the rest. Truth is that with Ball and Maxfield certain to retire (in my mind at least), there is probably only one or two that face the axe.
Here are my candidates (the first two are the most likely):
Heath James: last chance
Jarrad Sundqvist: Liked by the club, but similar to James
Nick Malceski : Saved at the cost of Thewlis
Trade possibilities:
Nick Davis: Needs to shape up, literally
Remote chance of being traded:
Nick Fosdike: has to make more of an impact, but likely to stay
Cheers Ajn. Category 3 assumes that some players will improve, and some won't. It doesn't say that all will be delisted, only that they are at risk.
The size of the Category actually influences Category 2 to a large extent, since one of the reasons that a player would be safe is that there is a significant number of players more likely to go than they are.

i agree with your analysis, but can't imagine Davis agreeing to be traded, i.e. he would probably hang up the boots rather than be traded.
Fosdike will either step up and thus become an integral part of the side,or....he has no real trade value as demonstrated in the recent trade period. i'm sure most people agree that if he were to achieve his potential he would be a valuable asset, as his athletic ability can't be questioned.

I don't think it's true to say he has no real trade value. I read that his mooted trade to the Crows was hampered by the size of his contract. If he were out of contract, wanted to continue playing AFL and the Swans were keen to trade him, he would probably accept a lower contract if that is what was needed.
No disagreements this time? I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing!
You want a disagreement?
OK, I disagree quite strongly with your comments on Mathews, though not your catergorisation.
I think he is probably the most under rated player on the Swans list, particularly by many Swans fans. I agree that he's a fairly "vanilla" player, and the role he plays could be filled by many other on the list. But I haven't seen evidence - yet - that any could perform that role as well as he does. Bevan and Ablett may get there, but they were some way behind last season.
I agree his skills are "medium", but his reading of the play and his concentration are huge assets.
For me, he was probably the stand-out midfielder of the first third of last year, certainly ahead of Bolton, Williams, Maxfield and Kirk in what he delivered, and a little way ahead of Crouch. The rest caught up with him and, mostly, overtook him as the season went on but he was still a very solid contributor all year.
I know many on here will disagree with my views on Mathews. But he's just racked up his third (or maybe even fourth) successive top 10 finish in the B&F and that is no mean feat for one of the more workmanlike players in the team.

You have a supporter right here.
I agree Mathews is under-rated by most people and is the kind of player you don't notice when they are in the side, but notice the effect when he is out of the side. Also his role in the side might be the reason Kirk and Crouch are more open "tagger's" compared to others around the league, because he can mop up their mess in a way.
