    Love Children 2005

Last year at this time we nominated our "love children" for the season ahead (I picked Paul Bevan which just proves what an excellent judge I am (HA HA HA)

Having read David Misson's asessments of pre-Christmas training and whilest we retain our recollections of last years performance ~ shall we gaze into our chrystal balls and nominate this years love children?

I suggest we do it in 4 categories and please give reasons (to help while-away the off-season).

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005
From Nick Potter, Ed Clarke, Andrew Hayes, Earl Shaw, Guy Campbell, Luke Vogels, Heath Grundy & Stefan Garrubba.

    Best Performing Debutant in 2005
From Matthew Davis, Sean Dempster, Andrew Ericksen, Nick Malceski, Jarred Moore, Tim Schmidt & Josh Willoughby.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005
From Luke Ablett, Amon Buchanan, Stephen Doyle, Ben Fixter, Heath James, Mark Powell, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Jarrad McVeigh & Jarrad Sundqvist.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005
Everyone else (although I'm not sure whether this should include Darren Jolly and David Spriggs).

    Re: Love Children 2005

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005 - no clues really, so I am going to say Nick Potter.

Best Performing Debutant in 2005 - Nick Malceski - great skills and hopefully he can combine them with good endeavour and smart play.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005 - Amon Buchanan - a few others tempted me, but I think Buchanan will have confidence from last year and his quick thinking and good hands showed that he is capable of more this year.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005 - Goodes - had a pretty ordinary year in 2004 due to a range of factors including injury and establishing a new position. Should come back fitter and fresher this year, plus also re-establish his role as one of the premier followers in the game.

      Re: Love Children 2005

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005 - Nick Potter. As with NMW I have no idea from first hand experience so I am going with the word on the street.

Best Performing Debutant in 2005 - Matthew Davis. I am not going to even try and justify it.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005 - Jarrad McVeigh. This is dependent, obviously, on him actually playing more than 10 minutes a game.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005 - Nicky D. If he manages to stay pretty much injury free and can carry the form he looked to have last year (ignoring the games he played injured) into this year we will be a very, very lucky club. Don't know if that counts as improvement though now that I think of it... this season will be an improvement on the last though...
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005 - Luke Vogels. One of the taller ones is likely to get a chance to play senior footy and I've rolled the dice and Vogels' name came up!

Best Performing Debutant in 2005 - Josh Willoughby. Stab in the dark. Any one of four or five could be "the one". Hopefully our senior core will stand-up though, and there will be limited opportunities for the young'uns.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005 - Heath James (I hope). Still remember his debut game and would love for him to finally graduate to an AFL player. Last chance this year.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005 - Kennelly. This will be the year when he turns into a really top line performer, hopefully combined with a move upfield. Bold prediction - look for him to score 20+ goals.

Best performed rookie: Guy Campbell...for the fact that he seems to have a bit of oomph about him which might help in the backline.

Best performed debutant: Sean Dempster....seems to be training the house down and is a good age, eg 1 year older than Kel to make a debut, plus we need defenders with a bit of height.

Most improved regular: Adam Schneider....having watched a few 2003 games recently it reminded me of how good he was in that first season. If he can get back to that.... good.

This is really chrystal ball stuff because other than Katrina's kid they haven't played before but I wish Ed Clark all the best.

            Best Performing Debutant in 2005
Sean Dempster looked a little 'rounder' than he should so if he's training the house down thats good. Last year in the ressies he played with time (like Rhys-Jones). Josh Willoughby looked very good early last year but he was VERY slender.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005
Ben Fixter, I can't help it I'm an optimist and I reckon if he's fit he'll fire BIG time. I hope LRT improves but big guys take longer.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005
Goodes, Davis and Schneider all had injury ruined years but I reckon it'll be Adam Schneider whose pace will catch eyes as part of the midfield rotation.

                  Rookie: Potter

                  Debutant: Malceski

These are stabs in the dark based on the very little I saw of them last year

Fringe Player: LRT - because Roos seems to think that he has a heap of potential and we need another big

Senior Player: Nick D because cream always rises to the top

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005 - Guy Campbell (23 now and this would be his one and only chance to prove something that he can cut it in the seniors. I believe he can).

Best Performing Debutant in 2005 - Nick Malceski (My Love child along with bucky, showed all the signs before being struck down last year, if given a chance early in the year he will be cemented in the best 22 at the end of the year. big call i know)

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005 - Amon Buchanan (He's had a taste of it and now he will make it his.)

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005 - Goodes (Watch him dominate again!)

Best performing Rookie listed player in 2005: Heath Grundy
A lot of judges rated Grundy high up in the National Draft, and he's been playing senior fooball . . . on that basis he ought to be a stand-out in the reserves comp and a good chance to get promoted.

Best Performing Debutant in 2005: Sean Dempster
More in hope than anything else . . . if he doesn't put himself in the frame in 2005, he'll be back at Mallacoota in 2006.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005:
                        Luke Ablett
Looks like he's decided to do the hard work, and won't have to improve much to become a regular in the seniors.

Biggest improvement by a senior player in 2005:
                        Adam Goodes

I don't know which group Spriggs fits into but I will call it early and say he will be a established Swan by the end of the year.

Ed Clarke, although Potter is probably closest to selection out of the group.

                              Best Performing Debutant in 2005
Sean Dempster: Following the Goodes and Kennelly rule of emergency for15 games, then big impact...has been held back for big impact.

Best performing Fringe Player in 2005:
Amon Buchanan: Nominated him last year, prior to season start when a number of you listed him for delisting
