    Swans at Kings Cross

Sun Herald inside back page reports the Swans have at last got a real clubhouse after signing a deal with the Aussie Rules Social Club at Kings Cross. What do people think? What about a name change? I'm thinking, "The Swans Club" or "The Nest".

Did they report it as if they got a scoop?

Was reported in the Membership pack in October!!

I would love a name change though....I am hoping the agreement goes that far, but on the surface it feels similiar to the Easts agreement. Guess we will find out more soon.

Fantastic for us supporters to finally have our own place to call home. No need to argue with bar staff at your local club now for a TV screen in the corner to watch an AFL game.

I'd be happy with a simple name change to something like the Sydney Swans Social Club but am not really fussed with whatever the name is.

Would be nice if the Swans gets a slice of the pokie profits.

Its fan-bloody-tastic that the mighty swans have their own social club!

A home for players and supporters alike!

I do hope it works out to something similar to what NRL clubs have with their leagues clubs

I'd like to call it The Swans Club.
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

If it is recognised as the Swans social club - why wouldn't they get a percentage of the pokie profits?
          Love those Swans

It may just be an agreement between the Swans and Sydney Aussie Rules club. Similar to the Easts Agreement.

Under the Easts agreement - the Swans were paid $250,000 a year by Easts, and the Swans had to hold after matches there, and promised a certain number of players to attend etc.

I hope this agreement is more inclusive - but that may involve a vote of their (the social clubs) current members, which they probably wouldn't bother with. Licence conditions for Clubs in NSW are quite strict.

Not sure what the arrangement is with the club, or how it comes to have the Aussie Rules name now. Does anyone happen to know who owns it or where the profits are currently going?

Richard Colless is now also the Chairman of the Aussie Rules Club.

Club is undergoing extensive renovation which will take some time. As was stated in Swans renewal mailout all Swans members are now members of the Aussie rules Club.

Let's hope that we can develop that sort of culture throughout the club. That when you go there you know that everyone is there for the AFL atmosphere and that the TVs will be on the AFL. Hopefully it will have Fox Footy as well. As well as full replays of Sydney-based Swans games, so that those of us who want to can watch a bit over a drink after the match.

I have had horror stories being in clubs/pubs like Easts etc where they have refused to switch the Swans on for fear of "offending other patrons". (Luckily in Newtown the Swans are the Number one team, so if you ask you'll get 3 or 4 voices saying "I want to watch that too.")

I'm not saying the NRL or other sports should be banned at the new club. But it would piss me off having staff at the club turning on the evil Wallabies or the NRL etc etc when it is an AFL/Swans club first and foremost.

There are enough rugger designer wine bars and "Bring back the biff" Leagues clubs to go to if you want to watch those sports. I want OUR club to be OURS.

Still I'm not expecting the Hilton. It is not going to be anything like Easts Parra Leagues or Panthers. But it will be home.

                      JF

PS:- Hopefully they will be relaxed to people wear footy attire within the club. It is a joke that people dressed in football jerseys etc are barred from entry into places like Parramatta Leagues. I hate having to take my red members cap off, because it is my colours. And my colours are part of me. And Im proud to show them off!

When did that take place? Have they had their elections recently? or was he already on the board and assumed the role in an acting capacity?

I think the Swans will get first priority in their new social club,JF!The Club will push to show their games. It will be an AFL/Swans club foremost however i could see another situation arising.
If another footy code such as Rugby Union have a big game happening that night and if the club know they get a good crowd then they could put that their first priority.Look, perhaps i am contradicting myself but i have seen it happen at Easts Leagues before where the Roosters and Union have clashed and Union has been given first priority even though Easts is home to The Roosters. Then again, union is quite big in the eastern suburbs.

As for your last point,JF about wearing colours in the club.I cant see there being a problem.Taking off you cap is the norm Julian and it usually part of club manners.Look,if you are wearing a swans top, shirt etc,you are still showing your colours even though you have been asked to remove your cap.
I am aware of what Parra Leagues do with patrons after eels games and i think that stinks!I am glad that after a roosters game i can go back to Easts wearing my roosters jersey!I feel its my right as a patron.

I just hope it all works out for both the Sydney Swans FC and us, the supporters!
