I would be disappointed if it was Jude Bolton over any one of Hall, Crouch or Kirk. Obviously these guys are all older than B1 and have fewer years left, but I think they've so far all proven more consistent on a football front, and have demonstrated significant leadership qualities. I'd even throw in Schauble as someone I'd love to see as captain one day.

He's trusted enough to take care of the younger guys like Mathew Davis etc in his own home, and he always gives 110% on the field. What more can he do? He's "short fused" because he's constantly screwed over, and that fuse is nothing like it was a few years ago anyway.
I'd much rather have him leading them than B1.
At least Barry would be on his feet long enough to be able to bark encouragement or lead by example.Sit down or i swear to God i'll have you shot.Comment

My choice would be Barry Hall. He commands plenty of respect from fans, players, commentators and the club. He's tough, has a great work ethic and a recognisable name in Sydney. I also think he's good on camera (although his voice is a bit Stephen Kernahan-like).Comment

For mine, its Bazza. A Captain should be able to marshall the team mates and inspire them. B1 does not do this. I've thought Hall is Captain material since his 2nd season. I don't think that there is any other on-field leader at the club, with perhaps the exception of Kirk.
Give it to Bazza!!!Comment

IMHO, the vital ingredient for an aspiring captain is the respect of your peers. Do you have any evidence that Bolton doesn't have that?

His performance is so critical to the on-field success of the Swans that I don't think I'd like to take the risk of making him captain.Comment

Sadly I suspect his chance is now passed. His football career is probably a year to year proposition, given the ongoing back problems he has had.Comment

for my mind, I think Jarred Crouch should get a crack hes hardworking, reliable and seems to have the respect of all the players.Comment

As for added pressure, he's already pretty much the face of the Swans in Sydney. I'd say more people identify him with the Swans than they could Stuart Maxfield.
It'll be interesting to see how Hall progresses this year with the added weight of expectation that AA selection and a Bob Skilton medal bring. If he deals well with it all, I don't see why he wouldn't be a good pick for captain.Comment

I think that, given the choices, I would actually go with Barry Hall.
I'd like it to be Andrew Schauble, but that ain't gonna happen and he wasn't an option in the poll.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

My point is not about respect (what sort of team would we be supporting if they didn't respect one another), its about inspiration. The type of player that gets talked about well after the final siren.
I still think he'll be an excellent trade option.Last edited by Jimmy C; 13 January 2005, 09:17 PM.Comment
