yer telling me JF. nada, rien!!!!!
most people are in the thinking that the players are asking too much seeing as only about 8-9 teams out of 30 in the NHL are making profits. (thankfully the Canucks and Habs are two of them, but imagine being in the shoes of say, the Mighty Ducks or San Jose Sharks).
but i kinda agree with rocket eade about footscray playing games in sydney. from their perspective, it really is stupid. but the market in melbourne is saturated and they have to do something to guarantee the income. it just reinforces the point that sydney really is a key for the revenues of the AFL, a point Barassi made when we were nearly shafted in the early 90's. Pre bandwagon days.
i spose things would be different for footscray if they were actually winning games and attracting all of their supporters to games. look at attendances for carlton recently. its a rich club when they are doing well, but when the wheels fall off............its not only sydney that adores a winner!!! sydney is just way more blatant about it.
as for the BC sporting market.....no Canucks due to lockout, no more Molson Indy (thanks Alberta Ralph), no NLL team anymore, Grizzlies in Tennessee........thank your preferred deity for the Vancouver Giants in the WHL and the 2010 Games........and Seattle being 3 hours down the road.
cheers
