Wayne Carey?s hamstring soreness has not improved and he will miss Adelaide?s round-three match against Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.
The Crows are resting the champion forward in the expectation he will be ready to resume against West Coast at AAMI Stadium on Sunday week.
John Reid, Adelaide?s general manager of football operations, said: ?Wayne?s got some soreness through the hamstring area, particularly the right hand side. It?s not a tear. In fact, it?s not even quite a strain.
?But we had a little bit of trouble with it earlier in the year and we?d prefer it to settle down fully before he plays. The doctor feels having this week off should just about get it right, so we?ve decided to take that action.?
Carey has played in Adelaide?s past three matches ? against Collingwood in the Wizard Home Loans Cup grand final at Telstra Dome and against Fremantle at AAMI Stadium and St Kilda at Telstra Dome in rounds one and two respectively.
He kicked four goals and had a role in others in a lively display against Fremantle but did not look fit enough against the Saints and spent some time on the bench.
Carey did not train at AAMI Stadium on Wednesday, nor did centre half-forward Mark Stevens, who also laboured against St Kilda because of a bruised right knee.
But Adelaide communications manager Phil Harper said Stevens was ?still a pretty good chance? to play against the Swans.
?Mark trained on Monday and his knee was still a bit sore, but we think he?ll be ready for Sunday,? Harper said.
The Crows will make at least two changes to the team that lost to the Saints by eight points.
The main candidates to replace Carey and Brett Burton (sprained ankle) seem to be Ronnie Burns, Andrew Crowell, Kris Massie and Daniel Schell, who all have some SANFL form behind them.
Matthew Bode will miss his second successive match with a hamstring strain but hopes to play against West Coast in round four.
Scott Welsh, who has had a lingering adductor strain, is expected to resume playing on Saturday in about a half of West Adelaide reserves? match against Woodville-West Torrens reserves at Woodville Oval.
