    Brett Kirk article from Sportal.Com

I love Brett Kirk's attitude (wish it could be bottled) and his leadership skills appear to coming out as he assumes a senior role within the side.

Quite topical with us discussing the need to improve our midfield as Stuey and Willo come to the end of their careers.

LRT + Schneids + The Mullett = hope for the future.

Just a reminder, mate, that RWO now has a policy of not posting full articles on the board, due to copyright issues. You need to provide a link to the article, and can comment about it and post relevant quotes and such, but not copy and paste the text into the thread.

Mod note: Article removed and replaced with link

If the AFL website had the same policy, there articles would be reduced dramatically....

In regard to the new policy, is this because of media owner pressure or just covering our own bases ?!

The Whale could email sportal.com and kindly request that the full text being displayed on this board/website and, if approval was given, then copyright would be null and void...
Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

Somebody told me, The Killers, Hot Fuss, 2004.

It is not a particularly new policy, rather one that has been with us for a while. And yes, its stricter adherence did come about because of a request from certain media outlets, Sportal being one of them.

          Americanisation at it's finest.

Soon the Sydney Swans Football Club will be charging a small fee to redandwhiteonline.com to use the rights to players names - and nicknames, psuedonym's, initials etc etc - on this site....

            Err... no.

The law is the law. It applies to them, and it applies to us. In the event of someone copying and pasting their intellectual property on a website they don't own, the law just happens to be on their side.

Whether it's "Americanisation" or not, the people who provide RWO to you free of charge have a right to protect themselves legally.

Do you not understand the difference between names - which are not considered under law to be intellectual property - and an article, which is?

and moving on from yet another political debate.... (but in this case i have to say that yes you should not plagerism and use others words etc etc - a link is surfice)

i do agree with the original poster that Kirk's attitude towards the game, the club, his team mates and the way he holds himself is fantastic! i believe that he is a fine leader and i hope that the younger players aspire to be like him and follow in his footsteps
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

To the first paragraph, I know that full well.

To the second paragraph, I course they do, never in dispute from my end but thanks for clarifying anyway.....

                    Liz, Liz, Lizzzz,

Do you not understand sarcasm when it hits you right in the face ?!!

What I stated in my first post regarding what The Whale could do is 100% corect however, what I stated in my second post (and what you are referring to with your reply) in the second paragraph was sarcasm at it's finest. The first line of the second post was true, as "Americanisation" regarding copyright - and Privacy for that matter - has been taken to the nth degree by the US media, Corporate's and sporting institutions in the previous 4-5 decades and followed (read: precedent) by the likes of Australia thereafter.

My apologies for trying to use a very obscure simily between intellectual property (what this thread is about after the second post) and players names/licensing (my post), however I wasn't trying to use a simily, I was only trying to use sarcasm/humour/disbelief in this situation and the ridiculousness (solely my opinion) of Copyright issues in this day and age....

Of course I understand the difference between names - and nicknames - and an article, particularly since completing a degree in Public Affairs/Marketing and now currently working at a Victorian Government Statutory Authority, whereby I deal with Copyright and Privacy issues on a daily basis in regard to our Publications, Forms and Website.

I raised the Copyright issue in regard to media articles by question in the first post because a) I wanted to know first hand what was conveyed to the RWO moderators, as Point 6 of the RWO Forum Guidlines doesn't stipulate clearly why and b) maybe other's on this site would like to know the copyright guidlines that RWO are and have adher to.

Yes, believe it or not I can. I just happened to think it was dumb and tiresome.

We have had this discussion so many times on this board over the past year that it is also dumb and tiresome.

If you think the copyright law is an ass, or you don't respect the intellectual property of others, then fine. Your choice.

But at least have the courtesy to abide by the simple request of the "owner" of this board and the people who help him out with it without continual sniping and bickering about it.

These comments are not aimed specifically at you, Cressakel - just at everyone who keeps going on and on about what should be a non-issue.

For hopefully the last time, the RWO moderators were politely requested to do what they could to prevent the pasting of articles from other websites - with Sportal and AFL.com.au specifically named - and to request users to post links instead.

                      It's not hard.

If you could try to keep it on-topic it would be appreciated.

It just makes me laugh that the amount of slander that goes on in these forums is let to run rife while the soup brigade jump in with their high and mighty "posting rites and regulations". Quite absurd when you think about it. But then that's what happens when we deal with amateurs.

Don't take it personally, but it is fquite funny reading what some people come up with. Bend the rules to suit the situation it seems.

How far do YOU want to take the law?
If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.
