Absolutely. There is no doubt who is in charge down on the forward line, and who makes it his job to work even harder when the going gets tough.

In fact, it is his work rate that has impressed me the most over the past 3 years - more so even than his strength, agility and skill.

Also what has greatly impressed me about Barry is the fact that if he is not getting enough supply of the footy in the forward line, you will consistently see him working hard to get down to the wing / centre to make a contest and provide an option for the team...great leadership, working hard when the chips are down and leading by example!

Unfortunately that is not always a good thing for the team though. If Barry gets the ball on the wing, who has he got to kick to? There's no-one else in the forward line. It happened in the final against St Kilda.

It happened in a number of games last year!!

It was particularly evident in the MCG game against Essendon last year when we played that crappy chip around game and Hall was up on the wing getting short passes.

Sharpie, I certainly agree with your statement, however, it is better that Hall is trying to make the play, make something happen and get the footy, rather than standing in the forward line doing nothing if the footy isn't getting down there.

Hall is the type of player you want to make things happen!

I agree that is the crux of things. If Hall is having to go so far up the ground, maybe its because other players are working hard enough to make position.

However, the fact that he is the best in the team at taking contested marks and can take them consistently on a fast, pressured lead, even at his feet, and can then deliver the ball well into the forward line means that he is probably instructed to work up field some of the time. We just need to clone him so he can then kick the ball to himself.
