    More Swans Games at Homebush

The AFL plans to aggressively target Western Sydney and South East Queensland by scheduling more games in these areas. The long term objective is to have new teams based there.

A "hard-ball" approach will also be will be implemented with competing codes and ground sharing requests. Wonder what that means for the ARU?

According to the article, NSW is considered the biggest challenge facing the AFL.

    And about time to.
Although the steady growth in AFL for all things Swans since 1996 is good, Rugby and soccer and league have been fighting harder than Aussie rules in recent times, and It is about time they got more agressive after a period of consolidation.
I for one also would welcome a second Sydney team.
I know there are a lot of fear mongers out there (as well as a lot of one eyed Swans supproters - who probably wouldn't mind if the Swans were the only Elite team in the country), who will want to shout me down, But I actually think that more AFL in Sydney would help and not hinder the swans!
It certainly would help AFL, so long as the National body was prepared to underwrite the venture for at least 20 years.

A good barometer (at least initially) will be if next year's Ess-Coll ANZAC day game does get played at TS (there has been talk of it as the MCG won't be ready post-Comm games). If the game does get played at TS, the crowd that the game draws could give a really strong indicator as to whether Sydney is starting to embrace AFL, or still very much Swans-centric.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I am very much in favour of more Swans games at Telstra Stadium (I love the ground) but I'm not so keen on a second Sydney team yet. However, I like the idea of playing Ess v Coll at Telstra Stadium, although I would have thought that it would more likely be played at Telstra Dome in Melbourne.

Why would anyone in Sydney other than the most die hard AFL fans (of which I am one) want to go to a game of AFL at Telstra stadium Oz , between two teams that come from 500 miles away?
The best thing about Aussie rules is the clan-isim. We don't need any more Melbourne teams in Sydney. We need another Elite team from the west of Sydney playing there every second week, so that there is a game of Aussie rules on in Sydney every week in the winter months.
Then the code will spread. As it is the code has a false ceiling set with the Swans running a monopoly on and under servicing a market.
The job is just far too big for one club.

Because Sydney sports are about 'events'. They quite like to go to one-off things like the soccer. There are plenty of expats from AFL states in Sydney who will be keen to see a big game at TS.

There's a lot of Essendon and Collingwood fans living in Sydney plus a lot of neutrals might go because, as NMW pointed out, its an "event".

But that is no indication of how AFL is going in Sydney, rather it is an indication of how many Melbournians are moving to Sydney and craving a bit of supperior footballing culture.
The AFL need to develope a very large and committed following in the west of Sydney, who will turn up to games in their tens of thousands every other week.
It is a huge job, one that will cost in exccess of 100 million bucks.
Without it. Aussie Rules will not be the number one code in Australia in 50 years.
If it works their will be nothing stopping the AFL juggernaught from taking over the world, then the Soral system, then the Galaxy, then the Known universe, then the unknown universe, then the lower Astral worlds, then the upper Astral, then the mental the budda realms, then the realms of pure light, and then afetr that realm of pure nothingness.
All this can and will be aceived as the devine destiny of the AFL, led by the very unlikley temporal and secular leader know as Andrew demeitriaoeuaouieao ?????
But like all gods who have become men, he will probabley be crucified before he is successful, and there afer a religion will be formed in his name.
oh dear..... I really did get a bit lost there didn't I... well... suffice it to say Sydney needs a second team.

                  This is a good point.

The rest is, IMO, drivel. Not so much for the obvious reasons, but the sentiment therein. Why does AFL football have to continue to 'grow'. Personally I like footy because it is not an international game, because week in and week out we see the best players in the world, playing in the best competition in the world. Surely if we are to learn anything from league, and super league in particular, it is that taking a local game (and league remains pretty much an Australian (and Kiwi and a bit of England) game) to the world can be a disaster. If the Swans can consolidate a good percentage of the Sydney market, maintain it, and develop strong junior ranks, I do not see why it has to be the dominant code in Sydney in order to ensure its long term future. AFL will always be a southern/western game that came to Sydney in the 80s and went to Brisbane not long after. A second Sydney side would be a disaster, for the AFL and the Swans.

Of course it does not have to conquor the known and unknow world, that was a joke. hahahaha!
But, there is too big of a character differential I beleive and also too bit a market to be served by just one Aussie rules team.

What about the Western Sydney Funnellwebs or the western Sydney Goanna's or the wetern Sydney Granny killers, or something truely Australian, or even truely Sydney. Get a whole different vibe, to the old stayed replanted generic bullshiet.
What about the western Sydney fire? They alaways get bush fires out there in the blue mountains.
Then again Westen Sydney bullgogs does sound pretty good.
                          I'd buy a season ticket.

I like the idea of the Western Sydney Bulldogs because I think it would be good for the team to have an already established supporter base in Melbourne like the Swans.

Perhaps they could get some kind of deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL too.
