    Can We Actually Win?

Like many on this board I have been fully expecting that we will be seeing something like the 100 point whitewash we got last year for the game tomorrow.

But looking at the teams (and not counting the difference Eade may have made), I think we may be an outside chance.

The Doggies look to have a top heavy line-up to me and will be missing Eagleton. Even though thay have most of their best playing I think we have the edge on them in speed and agility.

Our side isn't as young and inexperienced as last year and the quality of our draft pick ups Rookies appears to be excellent. We are also more advanced in our training than we were last year.

The big problem for us appears to be to find the forwards who can replce the likes of Hall, O'Loughlin and Davis who kicked 133 goals between them last year.

For this reason (if we are trying to win) I think that I would play Schneider forward and probably give young Ed Clarke a go as well. Nicks ,Bolton and O'Keefe are of course going to be the other main targets I think.Perhaps James as well.

Hopefully we will also get something out of the midfield.

Anyway, defeatism isn't a good way to start the season so I live in hope. I certainly don't see a 100 point defeat looming.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

Depends really on how Roos uses the players. If its anything like last year, when he chopped and changed the team all game we'll get pumped, but if he attacks the game with some kind of structure and allows the senior players to play full matches then we are in with a shot.

I expect to lose, but not like last year. I say under 30 points

That is probably my expectation as well. Although the team is inexperienced they were pretty well structured last week and worked well as a unit. They also tackled and chased well considering the status of the game. If they can hold their own in the midfield they should do OK.

Yeah, expecting to lose but hoping to win. Just like the seasons of 92-93.

I think we have more depth than last year, and won't be disgraced tomorrow.

But I can't see how we could possibly generate the firepower to kick a winning score from that squad, so I'll be going along just to get a good look at the youngsters. I certainly won't be stressing about the result.

I wont be losing any sleep over the result. The interest lies in how the youngsters handle the step up to senior level. Seeing Lewis Roberts Thompson at CHB will also be interesting.

Agree. That's pretty much all that can be said.

Yes I think we can win. I can't imagine us losing first round of the Wiz Cup. I think we be thankful we aren't playing a team like Brisbane Lions, or someone really good. Not saying we're crap but the less competition - the better, but only in some cases. If we end up playing StK in Tas, not too sure.

                  OF COURSE WE CAN!!
                  Im in an optimistic mood...
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

Bo, you're not imagining hard enough Paid any attention to recent history?

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Well, if we do happen to lose, at least we will have a few weeks worth of practice matches under REAL rules instead of the rules that are in place for only 4 weeks a year.

                      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Have you seen the teams ? I expect a sound beating. But I won't be watching the scoreboard for this one. Looking forward to seeing Spriggs, McVeigh, Willoughby, Jolly, Dempster and Powell.

Well, we should be some way behind but for the Doggies' inaccurate kicking. Dempster and McVeigh were the most impressive of the Swans in the 1st half. Some appalling skill errors from both sides too.
