I get in trouble when I criticise Leo...

Mathews is an excellent defensive player and very good at reading the play and being in the right spot. His decision making when he has the ball and his execution of disposal leaves a lot to be desired.

I think at most you want 2 tagging midfielders.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Yes that's right...but it is easy to find defending midfielders, despite all the hype about Kirk. That part of it should be rated AFTER the Q...which is my entire point. So Mathews stopped some run at some point. What was the score again?

And I'm unsure why the tide has suddenly turned against Mathews.
Have been saying it for three years, there's no ebb tide, here. Still waiting for a 20 possession game where the possessions are reliable and go forward.
Meanwhile, Leo (who is, so far, beyond criticism) gifted them a couple of goals.
Leo doesn't play in the midfield which is the essence of the thread, I'm trying to keep one thing in focus at a time.
I also have hope for Spriggs but that's only from a few glimpses of talent. As yet, I don't cringe when I see the ball go his way.
Why not? His forward kicking was woeful and his penetrative handballing to advantage has been very rarely seen all season...although he has done a couple of good saving handballs when we have been under pressure. Hence the 1 rating. Oppostions would be in raptures if he was our leading possession getter.
