Found this on the Swans site Re: Swans Reserves

    Reserves rested
After the Swans Reserves were knocked out of the Vili?s Cup by Queanbeyan, those young players who had participated in a majority of the pre-season and those who had niggling injuries were given the weekend off. However while Jarrad McVeigh, Sean Dempster, James Meikeljohn, Paul Bevan, Scott McGlone, Nick Malceski, Josh Thewlis, Daniel Hunt and Ryan Crawford were rested, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Jarrad Sundqvist and Luke Ablett took part in a Sydney AFL intra-club match.

Both Roberts-Thomson and Sundqvist needed extra match time after having spent limited time on the field during the pre-season. Ablett on the other hand, being close to senior selection, needed more time to show Swans selectors what he is capable of.

The Swans Reserves will play a practice match against the University of NSW/East Sydney Football Club this weekend (Saturday April 12) at Lakeside Oval (the Swans training ground ? just opposite the SCG) at 10:30am.

Interesting to note that Ablett played in that game to give himself more chance of senior selection.
Perhaps they are getting those three ready to play senior footy? (

Yet another example of how the Swans are going to suffer without playing in the VFL. 1 week off when the real stuff is 2 weeks old - this is stupid!

I can't see how the young blokes are being prepared to play in Seniors - I hope it works out but I'm afraid it won't.

it is a cost of our location. However, it will prevent the huge costs assosciated with sending players to melb every week.
The challenge is to improve the standard of the local competition.
