I like to bag him as much as anyone, but we only do so, because he could be so much better. He could be an elite player, if he wanted to work on his game and not rely on his natural ability. For now we should give him a chance and see the real season in action, especially since he started last year so well before injury.

P.S. I'll take up a 6 month membership in the ND club and refrain from bagging him till proven otherwise.
      Staying ahead of the game...

I just hope he has a big year - although his pre-season doesnt fill me with much hope.
He is such a freak with the ball - I just hope he works hard to achieve his full potential.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

I love watching Nick Davis, regardless of his fitness, attitude or whatever.

Like Goodes, when he's got the ball he always tries to make something happen . . . snap over the shoulder, kick off the ground, torpedo from outside 50. No-one else in the comp does the crazy things he does . . . it's players like him that make footy so enjoyable.

          More power to him!

Nick Davis has the best disposal in the Sydney Swans, I would ask people to suggest who in the entire AFL has better disposal. Last year his return was 1.8 goals per game when he was not a focal point for the offence at all and should not have played a lot of those games...

I have little time for people who have little time for Nicky D if their mindset is based on "looooooook how talented he is...... he should be better".... Nicky D suffers from Mark Waugh disease... but I think he is more gifted at his sport than Junior ever was.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

His disposal might be good, but he doesn't get the pill often enough.

Not sure that that's right, actually. In the gamers he played he scored a hell of a lot of goals...so he must have been getting it enough for a half forward. And for the half the games he did played he was injured anyway...so that mitigates it.

For all the tendancy to want to bag him I think we should remember the first half of Rd 1 last year and think on the fact that if he hadn't got injured we would have beaten the Lions for sure. That's the impact he HAS (not could have) when he is fit.

When he is fit there is nothing wrong with his attitude at all if you cast your mind back to the games he has played fit in the last two years. We're remembering the publicity about what happens to his attitude when he is NOT fit (KFC anyone?).

From all accounts he will be healthy....if not aerobically fit.....come RD 1. That's good start in my book.

Put me firmly in the former bucket. I'm saddened you have little time for me but that's OK. We have so few genuinely talented players - and like you I put Davis high up the skilled AFL ladder - that of course he comes under scrutiny when he's not playing. I believe he is absolutely critical to us taking that extra step - having our gutsy, workmanlike midfield rotation will only go so far... a fit and firing Davis, resting in the FP, would give us an added class element. Him doing that together with Schneider would be the icing on the cake.

I know he's been injured. But my frustrations stem more from his apparent - ok, perceived - attitude than anything. To me he doesn't have the mental strength to play injured a la Magic, Willo, Leapin et al.

Analogy with Jr also doesn't work imo as for all his perceived 'faults' (looks lazy, or like he doesn't care, gets out stupidly etc) he played 120~ tests and for 10 years. Plus, even if he got out from a rash shot, he would take a blinder or two in the slips. If only we were to get that dual service from Nick D!

Mark Waugh used to drop sitters quite regularly though which sort of negated the blinders. He was a great slipper but he dropped a lot more than people realise.

Davis suffers, and Waugh suffered from, not always being able to live up to others' expectations of what they should achieve. IMO it would make a pleasant change if people would get of Davis' back and enjoy his football for what it is, not what they think it could or should be.
