    Pre-Season Hits, Misses & Missing

I've now seen the Swans 3 times this year and would like to share my thoughts.

    GRASSBURNERS
    Hits
McVeigh ~ Did very well against Essendon & Footscray, he is coming along very very nicely and has real speed as well. He should spend very little time on the bench this year.

Moore seems a real goer, reminds me of Shannon Grant when he arrived. So forget about spending a yearlong apprenticeship in the ACTFL, he looks ready to play a role off the bench in senior company.

Josh Willoughby, a year on the weights has improved things, his goal agaist Brisbane was incredibly slick. I'm really looking forward to his debut.

Shaun Dempster's was looking good in the first two games, he has one hell of a kick on him, but I thought his game against Brisbane was less convincing. I think he will certainly be blooded very shortly.

Schneider has shed all his baby fat and looked ready to return to 2003, please look after those hamstrings kid!

Monty did very well in all games, carrying on from last year. He seems a true rover, so a bit of an anachronism.

I have been looking at Fosdike and Spriggs as competing for a spot as an outside midfielder this year. While at this stage I think Spriggs has overtaken Fosdike, Nick fought it out better than David against Brisbane.

Katrina (Nick Potter) seems to have beefed up and developed serious desperation, well done in every game.

The other player I've noticed is Ed Clarke (hearafter refered to as Mr. Ed, because he's as big as a horse). I can not believe he's a kid, nowonder he went through the other kids at the underage carnival last year like a dose of salts. He's a rookie so I'll probably enjoy watching his efforts in the ACTFL this year.

    Misses
Garubba looks quick, although he didn't do a lot when he played against Essendon or Brisbane. We'll see what a year of ACTFL and weights will do.

Schmidt, only one game and against Brisbane at that, he's clealy worked hard on his fitness, but a lot o

    Missing
Nick Davis, what did Roos mean when he said "from what I recall he's ready to play"?
Ben Fixter, I'm a big fan but I'm saddened to note his continuing absence.
Sundqvist, Malceski and Ablett are presumable still recuperating, although I had expected to see at least the former.

    BIG BLOKES
    Hits
Has "The Hyphen" bulked up or what (pity about the peroxide accident though). I reckon he's played 8 GREAT quarters at CHB.
It's early but I think we'll need to find somewhere else for Saddington & Goodes.

Heath James did very well against Chris Grant and then rolled his ankle against Brisbane, maybe the kid is cursed.

IMHO Doyle has been playing far better than Jolly so far (and I was very impressed with young Earl Shaw against Footscray especially).

Vogels looks a real possibility, he's kicked a goal in each of his games.

    Misses
It's early but Campbell is less likely to be seen in the firsts this year (although his fumbling may just be nerves), Grundy ditto. Calling them "misses" however isn't met as a perjorative, they just seem less likely to break into the firsts this year.

Mark Powell, still got pipecleaner arms and moves awkwardly, his efforts against the Dons and Dogs were ok, against Brisbane he was poor. Perhaps he will be given more opportunity this year but hi lack of both speed and strength is a big worry.

Jolly, very early days yet but his performance against Darcy & Minson was a real worry, perhaps the 3m is throwing him.

    Missing
Matthew Davis, where is he? Not listed for an operation, I'd hoped to see what difference a pre-season has made to last years draft smoky.
Saddington & Goodes still recovering, but I'd hoped to see Adam being trialled, if only to see Paul Roos' plans for our Brownlow medalist. If he's not to be played in the ruck (plan A), I think LRT deserves first shot at CHB (plan B) then the only key position available is full forward (plan C) ~ or is there a plan "D"

I too like Fixter's play - but no idea where he is - believe Davis will be back this week - but still so many missing.
    Love those Swans
