Wasn't there going to be no more pre season games there because of the condition of the ground (ie rock hard)

I spoke to someone at the Newcastle City Australian Football Club and the game is definately going ahead. However, he was not aware that it was Collingwood (he did not know who the Swans were playing). The game would be advertised in the next few days.

This article on the Black Diamond AFL website seems to suggest the issue of the Swans using the ground was resolved.

It looks like Collingwood will play Sydney in a pre-season game in Newcastle. From looking at other messageboards it appears the match details are:

@ Newcastle No 1 Sportsground (Corner of Parry and Union Streets Newcastle)

Hopefully we will be able to get the time confirmed officially tomorrow.

Affiliated to the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL, Essendon is drawn to play Geelong under lights in Bendigo, and the competition will also move to Newcastle where Sydney will take on Collingwood in the final competitive hit-out for all clubs in the lead-up to the AFL Premiership season.

Will the footballers have to play around the cricketers?

Hmmm, a Swans game watched with Novacastrians. I'll have to think about that. Novacastrians can be scarier than Port Adelaide supporters. The place is full of Vicky Pollards types (watch Little Britain). Actually, Newcastle is a lot like Little Britain.

while i realise i'm taking the bait, i'd have to say that the Aussie Rules supporters in Newcastle are far less feral than the rest of the town who support the cross country wrestling team & you should get up here and enjoy the day

(the ferals all comeup from the central coast anyway )

                        Hi Northern Swan,

Do you know if there is going to be any signing sessions as was the case with the Swans vs Essendon match at North Sydney Oval?

Also is there an official program of events yet?

Quite possibly, but they'd be from Wyong Shire

I might have both banner making AND a SYDNEY KINGS GRAND FINAL to attend that weekend.

Otherwise I'd love to get a car up. Would bring the flags and go behind the goals as I did a few years ago.

Still think I will be required at banner-making though.
