    Lyon looks to midfield

    Lyon looks to midfield

"We expect Jarrad McVeigh - who played 20 games off the bench last year - to get more game time and become more of a key player in there as he has the run and the skill so we expect him to step up," Lyon told Sportal.
That will please a lot of people.

Our midfield was our weakness last year, so you would expect Lyon to try to pull a rabbit out of the hat to try to get more out of that area. He is responsible in part for last year's poor midfield showing, so he needs to do something much better to earn his keep.

Fixter is the really interesting inclusion . . . I'd love to see this bloke play a full season.

I really rate him for skill and determination, and if he can play consistently I reckon he could be a top class on-baller.

But . . . if he spends 2005 riddled with injury again, this will surely be his last chance.

I am a Fixter fan also. It has been one of the great tragedies at our club over the past few years. When this bloke was firing he was very, very, very good. Fingers crossed, if it is his year he adds a real dimension to the team. He is clearly highly rated by the coaching given their desire to keep him.

He hasn't been delisted and picked up, like Heath was, from memory. So to perservere with him as long as they have makes me think they still have plans for him, and not in Canberra.

I don't think our midfield was any worse last year than the year before, particularly when you allow for Goodes and Williams being curtailed.

Indeed, I propose that effectiveness at clearances improved markedly last year - an area than we were previously belted in in most games.

Don't have a problem with endevour but the delivery to our forwards was ordinary at best.

Don't agree that 2004 was as good as 2003. In 2003 our midfield was far more free flowing that in 2004. In 2004 it was at best scrappy. Clearances may statistically have been better, but so what if you can't produce effective disposal.
