Yeah, I reckon Nicks' position will depend on the availability of Davis. And our defence looked so settled at the end of last year when Nicks was returned back there.

It's great to know he's in form and able to play at either end. A year ago you had to wonder whether his career was over - good on him for sticking it out and proving the nay'sayers wrong.

To lose by a point, in Adelaide and when its raining is a fairly good result. Next week it seems we'll get a better idea of how we are travelling as there is only so much you can take out of matches in the wet.

No injury news from my correspondent as yet. She may well be busy defending us to camry fans intent on crowing about the victory. They'll be sorry.....
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

Thanks Swannette for the updates. Will have to keep our fingers crossed for injury update.

I'm planning to go next Saturday, so we should get a few people providing reports on that game.

Watching Weagles game on Fox footy and I think they will be a top 4 side this year.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

I hope we're not set for another year of "good effort" losses.

There are some decent posters over on the Adelaide BF board.

Most of their comments are, understandably, about the Crows players but it sounds like Kirk had a sensational game, Williams and Jude Bolton were good, Schneider was "dynamite" (though with his twin Monty on the ground it is possible that the two might have been confused at times), Nicks obviously had a great last quarter.

Also very encouraging to read that Dempster played at CHB on Ian Perrie and seems to have done really well.

Bazza had a shocker, apparently - gave away 2 50m penalties and got a bit aggro. Sounds like a visit to the AM classes might be on the cards this week. He was a bit aggro last week as well.

                    Sydneys BEST

Sydney: Dempster, Kirk, Buchanan, Nicks, Williams, Schneider.

Bodes well for Dempster, one would think he'd be a favourite to debut Round One from his pre-season performances. Particuarly with the likes of Barry underdone, Schuable out, Saddington out, Goodes underdone.

Great to see Buchanan and Schneider in the best too!

                      Match Report Submitted

It should be published sometime today. I posted this last night, whilst it was still fresh in my mind. However, here are some more thoughts that came to me overnight.

At the end of the first quarter, my new Crows mates and I agreed that they had contributed a great many points to us. We recalled at least four and probably five "easy" rushed behinds (and there were more in later stages of the match). At the time we speculated that if it were down to a few point, the Crows might rue their tactics. But in retrospect, if just one of those rushed behinds saved us from getting a goal (and I think the odds are at least one did), then their tactics were good in the conditions.

The ball was seriously slippery, as was the turf, players were sliding all over the place, and there were times that I was worried.

Monty was really hard at it. He stood out by his determination to be in things ... e.g. going for a tackle and then a moment later back in the play down the field. I saw Schneider come off the bench a few times, but don't recall any patches of play .... so the comments above in the thread attributed to Crows players may have just got confused with Monty.

Nicksy has brilliant in the last quarter. But throughout the game he seemed to be playing with a confidence that had him going for balls and plays that looked to be out of reach, yet he was getting them or almost getting them. I think this bodes really well.

Pebbles was in a fair bit of play. The folk I was with were quite amused by his nick name, so I guess I was cheering him on a bit, so he was involved, but I don't recall anything remarkable.

Jude played strongly in parts. He also seems to have a bit more confident and went for a couple of high marks. I must say that my heart was in my throat when he did so, because of the conditions and my fear of injury! Obviously, he had no such fear.

I spent a fair bit of time looking for Stewie, thanks to spurious text messages reporting he had torn a hammy. I never saw him go off looking injured and when the first message came in, he was on the field. he went off shortly after that and then came back on. He did not look injured at all to me, but I was in a box up high and quite removed from play.

Dempster was good. I'm not quite there with numbers of some of the guys who have played the last couple of weeks. He stood out enough for me to seek reference on who was number 26. He also was really into the play, seeking to be there again and again, recovering quickly to go into the next bit of play.

On injuries, I note that Ball is listed as injured - bruised arm. I don't actually recall seeing him on the park, so he either wasn't influential or was injured early.

We did quite well out of the centre in the first and last quarters.

But the game was noticeable for the fumbling (understandable in the circumstances) and turnovers. We must remember that we are in the red shirts! There were several occasions (one by Tadhg is clear in my mind) where we kicked straight to the bad guys after a behind.

Leo didn't do much. The mob with me called him Jumping Leo, and I had to correct them, but apart from the first "jump" that they identified incorrectly, he didn't show them what he really could do.

Hmmmm. I think that there might have been 12 in the stands supporting the Swans. I certainly got a few grins from the Crows people all around. With my party, I probably had an unintended result. They couldn't stand to see me on my pat malone out cheer the whole stand, so in the fourth quarter they gave me back as good as I was giving them. My voice is hoarse of course this morning and I'm off to catch a plane home.

                        Thanks Bron.

I just found a report on the AFL website. I've posted the link here for others like me who are still trying to figure out the new AFL website.

You get the link by customising the news stories for Swans only.

Apparently both played well. Schneider had a head bandage due to a cut above his left eye that required stitches on Tuesday from an elbow knock from Willougby in a tackling drill and so the 'twins' (even though i dont think they look that much a like any more since monty shaved his head) were quite distinguishable.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

You flew over just for a trial match Bron? That is pretty darn hard core. (not bad from an SSI groupie hey Bart? )

Hope you gave the locals hell! South Australians generally bite when teased!

Crows fans generally like us. I was greeted with great warmth and friendliness in the Crows Shed before the game in 2003. After the match people were coming up to me saying that we were their 2nd side etc etc.

I'm actually working in Adelaide at the moment. So just delayed my trip home until this morning. My client, very kindly hosted me. Came home on the same flight as the boys. Kirky's wife and baby went over with him. I must say he is a besotted dad! He had eyes only for his little girl.
