Nic Fosdike - Where's he at?

I noticed some of the team lists posted in the "Vs Hawks" thread, didn't metion Nic Fosdike.

Obviously Nic hasn't lived up to the hopes we had for a number 3 draft pick, but putting that aside, where is his career at?

He has pace, endurance and the selectors like him - he'll play most games this year.

He'll have to compete for a place, with our up-and-coming youngsters.

I think I could try to squeeze a place for him in as a forward pocket rotating through the midfield in need.

Problem being that FP is set aside for half our team of course.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I thought it would be at least round 2 before this topic started again.

I see McVeigh, Spriggs and Fosdike as endurance running outside midfielders. While Stewie and Willo are going around there is not room for the three of them, but neither of the two veterans have the legs to run all day any more. I would expect one of the three to get in, and possibly another on the bench. Who gets picked will depend on their pre-season form and how many brownie points each has with the selection panel.

During my lunch break I watched some of R22, 2003 and was surprised how good ?Footsteps? is when fit and firing. Even though I personally favour McVeigh, past selections say Fossie will get the nod if he is fit, with McVeigh and Spriggs fighting for a possible spot on the bench.

Long term, Nick?s position on our list will be helped by the pending retirements of Stewie and Willo, but he needs to perform this year, especially if McVeigh continues to improve, Spriggs steps up and Schmidt & Willoughby start to show more promise.

So Royboy J Bolton is OUT.

VBS on Stewie and Willo. To suggest that Willo is too slow is pure folly. I don't particularly remember Willo getting caught too often last year. Stewie slow!!! He'll be quick when he is 70. His problem is hitting targets.

Fosdike has never been a 'one grab' player and fumbles far too often. Add to this his small frame and average kick and I fail to see how Fosdike can make any sort of contribution this year.

Maybe with all his endurance he could become a water boy or runner, they always seem to run a lot.

Make him a tagger like the rest of our fumbling, skill-less midfielders.

As one who very heavily bags "Fumbles" for his three grabs..bounce..bumble...pick it up...damn,ow did I get tackled again playing of late, I have to say in his defence that his kick is better than average (certainly for our midifield). When not pressured he delivers to a lead better than anyone else on our list. It's his one real strength...he's able to kick flat and half or three quarter distance onto the chest. EVERYONE ELSE on our list is immensely prone to kicking the ball over the head (Captain, B2, Leo) or kicking up and unders (Stewie..Willo...Jude).

His best game last year was when several shocking fumbles and errors saw him banished to the forward pocket against WC...where he kicked two classic, skilful crumber's goals.

Can't see him as a tagger as he is a the worst player in the league at getting to the fall of the ball...good endurance, but average off the mark. Judd or Harris or Hird or Hasleby would have 7 clearances in the first quarter if Fossie was tagging him.

He definitely lost a yard last year Nico. He started to get caught more often. A few years ago, he was the quickest player at getting his foot to the ball going around, but I think he's lost a bit of that.

Fosdike = RUNNER (best position for him....)

... and he will be fitter than that old Essendon guy we having running around at the moment
