Stenglein compliments their midfield perfectly, Gardiner is fit and a few of their young blokes look like real prospects (mcdougal, staker etc)

If they can find another route to goal apart from just Matera (ie either Lynch, Gardiner, mcdougal) They will be very hard to beat with their midfield

but agree rest is pretty pathetic

because they have gardiner back and was arguably the best ruckman in the league before his injury and he can play forward. They also have cox now as well.

The midfield has cousins judd stengllien banfield et al
the backline has waters glass and other solid contributors
and now the forward line seems to have some new young talls and phil matera (*although i cant stand him) is a great small goalkicker.

Worsfold is also a good tough coach

It's a great midfield on paper yet was fairly easily dismantled in the Wiz Cup final by a group of fairly honest toilers.

They rack up very impressive stats yet often a lot of those are "cheap". And they don't seem to like applying consistent pressure to the opposition when things aren't going their way.

People are ranking it up there with Brisbane's but, while I think it has more depth than the Lions, I'm not yet convinced that its top half-dozen, as a group - not individuals - are anything like as effective as the Lions' has been for the past few years. Certainly there was nothing extraordinary last year in the number of times they got the ball into their forward 50.

Yes, it is a group with far more potent weapons than the Swans but I don't think it's achieved anything tangible enough to be rated alongside the Lions' midfield.

i disagree, their weakness is their unaccountable midfield, which in turn makes their backline look bad. however, this is why stenglein is the perfect mould to their list. if only theyd managed to snag carr as well (impossible)...

i doubt any midfield currently playing ever will achieve anything close to the lions success. It is arguably the best midfield of all time.
