    Beginning of something?

Apart from the scoreboard, yesterday's game wasn't a fun game to watch. Of course there were some great highlights - Nicky D's commitment and fitness and Jolly's abilities - but we still seemed weak through the midfield.

As I predicted before the game, the media today is tending to judge Sydney as winning an "easy" game while the Cats showed their premiership credentials by disposing of the Tigers

(As an aside and as our banner suggested, it was a weekend of avian and feline intercompetition. Crows and Eagles - Lions and Saints/christians: does someone in scheduling have a sense of humour? If so, how come the Cats didn't play the Doggies?).

From what I've seen of the other games, none of the teams seemed to be near their best form so maybe we can't read much into it. Or can we? Do you think that we may now, finally, have all the elements in place for a shot at the Premiership? Or do we need to wait until at least the games against the Lions and Dees to see how we're running this season? Or just the return of Magic and Schauble (and how long is a Schauble "one week injury" this year?)

Neither teams' skills were great but I'd agree with you that most of the better teams have looked rusty this weekend.

I thought Melbourne looked a bit haphazard, especially bringing the ball forward. The Lions and Saints both turned it on for short periods but otherwise overused the ball and missed targets. And the Eagles looked lethargic for most of the game.

I haven't watched the Geelong / Tigers game so maybe the Cats looked better but the scoreline (and pre-season comments from Wallace) suggest that there wasn't a huge amount of pressure being applied in the midfield.

At least the Hawks tried to apply pressure - some of their tackling was pretty good - and that would have contributed to the sometimes scrappy nature of the game.

      What did the banner say?
They didn't put it up for the crowd to see, I'm guessing this was due to the fragle crepe.

I watched most of the Geelong v Richmond game after ours and I can tell you if we had played Richmond we would have kicked 25 goals plus as well.

They were shocking, while the Hawks skills were shocking and they had no go forward at all at least they had a dip. The Tigers on other hand were as soft as butter and let the Cats do as they pleased.

But saying all that, it is way to early to get a form line on any of the teams. By round 7 we should have seen enough to work out who is in with a chance, who is their about's and who has no hope.
