    I was just wondering...

When was the last time we were on top of the ladder?

It doesn't really mean much, but I was interested

Off the top of my head....rd 1 2003.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The last time we were top of the ladder and it wasn't after Round One of a season was Round 3 2001 when we knocked Essendon off the top for the first time since early 1999
        Once was, now elsewhere

I think Mike is right. I cut the ladder from the paper and had it yellowing on my office door for the whole year.

That's correct, after our big win against Carlton.

We have been peaking a few rounds too early.

I can still remember all the BigFooty sneers about how it wouldn't last, etc, etc.

This year there has been no significant comment about our position

That's because most people realise that top position after round 1 is pretty meaningless! Also the top 2 teams - Sydney and Geelong - clearly drew the easiest first-round opponents.

Also remember that at the start of 2003 we were most (ignorant) people's pick for the Spoon, regardless of our form at the end of 2002.

We may not be seen as legitimate premiership contenders this year by most but I reckon more would have us in their predicted final 8 than would have us miss.

Why is vereybody seeing this victory as something of a great importance. Until round 7 or 8 we won't know anyway so why bother looking into tea leaves to forecast the future. Why don't we just wait and see till then what destiny will unfold for Sydney Swans and then start squabling about.

We'd certainly be seeing it as important if we'd lost!
