I became an AFL/Swans supporter in 83. went to my 1st game in 84, arriving at 3pm in time for kick off. (My union following dad worked out that we started out games at 2pm after that.)

      That count?

You are only opening yourself up to every old South Melbourne fan to say how long they have barracked for the club for.

Quite a few of us were there in the 'dark days' of the early 90s. Where we averaged 9000 to matches (more than some NRL clubs at the time) despite not having won anything for 27 straight matches. You would personally get slagged for barracking for the team, but you were there every week rain hail or shine. Because you could grow and be part of something.

There at the Moore Park Bowling Club with the fellow faithful, thinking of a better future for our club, dreaming of a success that at the time many of us never thought would have come, growing as the once ugly duckling of the AFl grew into being the most important cog in the games strategic expansion plan in the country. I hark back to those days with a great deal of fondness for some strange reason. I guess when you kept losing you had to make your own fun.

Several of us on here are expat southerners who swapped teams. Many are people who were never attracted to sport before. Many are white collar, many are professional, many are female.

Yeah, our club is a weird pastiche of misfits lost souls and wanderers from not only interstate but abroad. It has been said that the Swans crowd is an "accepting place to be". Because we have all come from somewhere to having our team in our lives. And each of us has their own story as to why they got behind the team.

      See below for that.

So hop onboard for the journey. Let's just hope that our yellow brick rod actually leads us somewhere constructive. As making the finals at this club is no longer good enough. We are Australia's Number One City; we want to be NUMBER ONE IN THE AFL as well.

I feel better after writing this. Not been a great week for me personally, capped off by today's effort against North.

i am just curious how many bigots there are on this board that believe they are some kind of yardstick for swans fandom.

i've been a fan since '98 after being introduced to the game. i sincerely hope i fail your standard.

I jumped on the bandwagon at the start of the 1934 season thinking I was on the right track to schoolyard glory. I should have known better. A decade or so earlier I started barracking for the North Sydney Bears.

Im better than you cos I started supporting the Swans in '96.

The bandwagon was bigger and fuller that year.

I think a more appropriate question is not when people started supporting the Swans but rather, after yesterday's crap, how long they will be able to keep supporting them.

If you were 8 years old that makes you 79, which probably makes you the oldest on this site. What gets me is that you are so deft on the computer for one of your generation.
