Swans seek gain through extra pain

    SMH Story

    Apologies if already posted.

Couple of interesting points. I can't say I paid Ablett too much attention, probably 'cause of all the moaning and covering of eyes.

LRT - Roos saw his game as a positive. I thought his game, putting his smothered kick before the siren aside, was servicable. I guess as a young player who really hasn't played too many AFL games his development has been pretty fast. Comments?

LRT would be a lot better if he stopped worrying about the bounce rule and just played his natural game.

Maybe Rugby is why the bounce rule affects him so badly.

"I think with Brisbane they are the benchmark of the competition and they are the hardest team, and we really respect them, so every time we play them, we build ourselves up for the game," Kirk said.

Maybe that's why Sydney seem to be able to beat the top sides, but struggle with the lesser ones.

Maybe the dumb ****s could build themselves up before every game - they only have to do it once a week and less than half the weeks for the year.

Maybe if the team somehow thought they were playing Brisbane every week (regardless of the jumpers out there) we would finish on top of the ladder!!!

                      LRT and Ablett

I agree with Roos on LRT and Ablett.

LRT did two clumsy things. One was a free kick given away about 70m out through interference - No big drama.
And 2nd was the kick into the man on the wing. - No consequences.

On the positive he kept Petrie out of the game, and took several fine marks under pressure.

He doesnt have the class to be a forward, but I could seen him developing into a very solid CHB with a bit of discipline.

Ablett looks good. Its a real pity he gets the tagging roles instead of an attacking midfielder. He has all the attributes of a quality footballer, just needs more chances from the coach.

One of Ablett's problems in the past has been finding enough of the pill himself. A run-with role (not necessarily a hard tag) with a quality midfield opponent is a common way of teaching younger midfielders where to run to get to more contests.

It's also a common route in for players looking to establish themselves, and some quickly graduate to become very good midfielders in their own right. Kane Cornes became established in the Port midfield in 2003 as a run-with player and by the end of the following season had developed enough to come close to winning a Norm Smith medal. You could argue that the Captain has also progressed far beyond the tagger that he was in 2003.
