Dead Serious, no mucking about thread

Given the number of wins (and almost-success) we had during the Capper (/Carter) and Lockett (/Dunkley) "eras", why don't we put Hall at full forward, get a red hot full back and start winning some games? It seems like such an obvious plan given its previous success.

Is it because we don't have the midfield (Williams and co.) or (Kelly and co.) to 1. get and 2. deliver the ball well enough?

We have Hall/Schauble, which might do okay from that perspective. However, there are two problems - one is that our current midfield is nowhere near as strong as it was in those eras, and two is that in those eras we also failed because we did not have an effective half-forward line.

I agree, Baz is in this FF/CHF role because it is pretty obvious that it's the only way he sees any ball - he has to come out to the wings or the fringe of the centre square. It would be nice to see him fulfill a more FF role, but at the moment it is essential that he leads out alot futher for the ball. IMO.

I reckon it's simplistic to say Baz at FF and Shaubes at FB will equal good footy.

Every week a different match up is considered and every week the objective is slightly different.

No one roles the dice in AFL like they used to...it's a fact, good or bad!

I think Hall is best at CHF with Mick O. or a tall like Doyle at FF.
That is if they stay fit.

Doyle would be good if he could take a grab. I remeber one of his earlier games he was just standing over the backs taking grabs thru sheer height. Haven't seen him do that for a while.

Barry Hall is not a FF. He is much more dominant at CHF (or halfway between). He gets bogged down at FF. Think back to 2002, he had a reasonable season but tended to go missing at times. Since hes moved up the ground he has become one of the most dominant players in the game, and had his best 2 seasons. O'Loughlin and Doyle are the 2 for the goal-square.

half the time if hall didnt run down and help get the ball it wouldnt go forward.

He seems to love roaming the ground and having some freedom as well, whereas lockett would need a map and compass beyond the 50m arc!

                              But I was being serious.

To answer your questions though, yes, we have a @@@@house midfield who can't get enough of it and can't use it properly when they do. Hence the need to recruit a star midfielder in last years draft, and more recently, the call from a few RWOers to blood Malceski, Willoughby, Schmidt and Moore in hope they are our great midfield saviours.

And no, Hall should stay at CHF where he won his first B&F.
